Hi there is Peter here a game from
writer's life this time how to draw
inspiration from other writers when it
comes to finding inspiration for our
writing there's no better place to look
than our contemporaries there's no more
magnificent tool available to writers of
them books and there's more to be
learned by reading than any classes
qualifications or courses out there many
writers struggle however when it comes
to drawing inspiration from other
writers they are so worried about being
accused of stealing another writers
ideas and so concerned with writing a
story that is utterly unique that they
avoid using the texts that they love and
cherish to aid them while stealing or
the rights of stories and copying their
work is not acceptable writers should in
fact harness all they can from other
writers work there's no harm in being
influenced by another writer by admiring
their ideas and molding them to create
something new doing so isn't cheating
it's merely embracing and celebrating
other writers work finding out what
works and doesn't work and creating
something unique and personal from what
you've learned so how can you draw
inspiration from other writers work
first look at their themes and ideas not
their words lifting words from another
authors book and putting them in your
is not cool however being inspired by
their themes and ideas is fine when you
read a great book focus on what you
loved about it note down the things that
made it work so well and then follow the
same patterns in your own there's lots
you can acquire from another author and
many lessons to learn why are their
characters so great why did they manage
their patient throughout the book what
kind of details made you able to picture
their world these are the things to take
notice of and to try to replicate when
you sit down to write yourself next read
widely in your honor the more widely you
read in the genre you are writing it the
less likely you are to just straight
copy another writers ideas devour as
many books as you can and follow
yourself to absorb all of the stories
you read doing so will help guide you
towards what works and what doesn't and
help you navigate your path and use what
you have learned to help you create your
own unique work learn from the
rule-breakers while other writers can
teach you about the rules of a genre
they can also inspire you to be brave to
experiment and be daring with your
writing read the work of writers who
didn't conform who really tried to do
something entirely different and bring
something fresh to the table absorb
their creative energy their daring
and go forth and do the same next look
at their success stories it's not just
about being inspired by other writers
writing but also their journeys most
writers know how difficult it is to get
noticed to get published to be
successful so looking to those writers
that have made it and the obstacles and
rejections they overcame to get there
can be an inspiration to all of us and
don't forget if it's struggling to write
or finish your book our free writers
talking can help with it you'll learn
how to overcome procrastination get
organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access and how well it's still available

Hello its Peter here a game from writers
life and coming up today how to choose a
name for your website every author has
been taught time and time again that
having a great website is essential a
site can be a useful platform to promote
your work to test your writing to gain
new readers and loyal fans and to sell
your books from - in short having a
website is imperative one of the most
important decisions you can make when
building your website is what you are
going to call it a strong domain name
speaks volumes and if you choose
battling you're stuck with it forever
will have to start from scratch what's
wrong so what do you need to consider
when choosing a domain name first
simplicity and memorability one thing
that's very important to consider is how
to make your website name one that's
easy to remember anything too
complicated or convoluted and people
will forget it get it confused with
something else or just spell it wrong
and never be able to find it so choose
with care and try to keep it simple and
straightforward if he can next choosing
your own name many writers choose their
names their website name and this is
usually a safe option it makes sense
it's self promotional and will make it
easy for fans of your work to find you
of course it's possible your name will
already be taken in which case you may
have to add a number or a word into it
to make it unique choosing your name
also gives you freedom to make your
website about anything you want you can
adapt and change it depending on your in
in the future so if you're writing
changes direction then you won't have to
change your website just because of that
next the name that explains what it is
you might like to choose a domain name
that reveals more about the kind of
writing you are for example if you are a
copywriter you could pick something like
copywriting expert com or if you write
gothic novels you could pick something
like the gothic writer com this can be
helpful regarding your website coming up
in search results more readily
however being this specific will make it
difficult if for example you decided to
start writing romance novels in the
future next a name that says something
about you you could also try to
incorporate a bit of personality into
your website name use a nickname or a
play on words or even a different
language if applicable this can be a way
of creating your unique name that shows
you are smart and witty
however these kinds of domain names may
be more difficult to remember finding
the perfect domain name for your website
is well worth taking some time over do
some research to see what your
competitors have used take time to see
what popular sites your target audience
might be interesting in and then go from
there you can call your website
absolutely anything but once you've
decided you're stuck with it
so make sure it's a good one and don't
forget if it's struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers
toolkit can help with it
you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized stay
focused
find time to write and finally get your
book published to get access now while
it's still available simply go to

that's it for now be sure
to give us a thumbs up if you like this

hi is Peter here with another dose of
hints and tips for writers from writers
life and coming up this time
make more money as a freelance writer
let's face it no freelance writer is
going to say no to the opportunity to
earn more money sometimes it can be
tough to find well-paid gigs and to get
enough work to keep your head above
water so what are the things freelancers
can do to make more money here are some
helpful tips first understand your
income when it comes to managing your
money you've got to be savvy what salary
are you already bringing in which these
are ongoing and stable which are
one-offs it's also important to evaluate
your clients be clear about which ones
are more valuable to you which give you
regular work which provide you
assignments you enjoy and can complete
more efficiently what is the word count
to pay ratio like once you have more
clarity about which clients are your
biggest earners and which aren't
you can start to make room for better
clients that will earn you more next
understand your time it's important to
be realistic about how much time you
have to work on each project and to
understand how long it takes you to rise
remember it's not just the word count
you need
pay attention to some pieces will
require more research or referencing or
simply take more brainpower because you
are not familiar with the subjects work
out how much time you have and then you
can figure out which projects to take on
next set financial goals once you know
how much you aspire to earn you can set
goals to work towards that figure having
an amount in mind will keep you clear
and focused and as you start to earn
more and more you'll feel more inspired
to keep going and begin to realize your
own worth the next raise your raise of
course you can't earn more money unless
you raise your rates it's important to
be able to assess your own skill set and
experience and don't undercut yourself
if you sell yourself short you are not
only doing yourself a disservice but
also clients will be suspicious of those
offering that services for very low
amounts and you may well actually lose
jobs because she seemed too cheap the
next build your reputation remember good
feedback and testimonials are invaluable
so make sure you always ask happy
clients for reviews that you can use on
your website or profile building up a
reputation as a skilled writer who meets
deadlines is communicative and easy to
work with will help you win bigger and
better clients next stop taking on low
paid projects at the end of the day
there are always going to be businesses
out there
that think they can take advantage of
freelance writers and offer them a
pittance for their work by avoiding
these low-paying jobs we can all force
businesses to offer a decent wage in
return for work and earn more money in
the process
- if you want to make more money as a
freelance writer you need to get
organized and put the work in breaking
down your goals it's a clear actionable
steps will help you clarify what you
need to do to achieve them remember this
doesn't happen overnight be patient
work hard believe in yourself and you'll
make the money you deserve and don't
forget if you're struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers
toolkit can help with it you'll learn
how to overcome procrastination get
organized stay focused
find times and write and finally get
your book published to get access to it

Hello its Peter here again from writers
life and coming up today how to make
your blog work for you writing a blog
can feel like a major slog if all you
want to do is write books then the idea
of starting up a blog maybe rather
abhorrent most writers are already time
poor and having to dedicate some of our
precious writing time to keep writing up
something that doesn't really satisfy us
can be very demotivating indeed however
writing a blog can be useful and even
for the most resistant writers there are
ways to make having one more enjoyable
and valuable too so how can you make
your writing blog work for you let's
take a look first
be creative your blog can be about
anything that's right absolutely
anything you don't have to go down a
particular route or stick to one
specific format in fact don't make your
blog unique and interesting find a niche
be weird and experimental use your blog
as an opportunity to truly exercise your
creative self and you might come away
feeling inspired next have fun blog
writing is only a drag if you make it
self if they're going to be negative
about it don't do it there are other
ways to market your book that will be
far less painful do them instead you can
make blog writing and enjoyable
experience though think about how to set
yourself challenges look at it as an
exercise in writing and editing use it
to find new readers and
keep your blog lights fresh and fun and
this will effortlessly shine through
next write about what you love stay true
to yourself
use your distinctive voice be
descriptive interested and passionate
about your blog topics if you write
about what you have a genuine enthusiasm
for this will come through and it will
be so much easier to engage your readers
and find new ones too and next don't
worry about the numbers many authors
write blogs with only one purpose to try
and sell more books well there's nothing
wrong with this if you get too bogged
down in the numbers or whether or not
it's affecting your book sales your blog
is going to become rather a chore and a
ball that's not to say you should put
effort into finding new readers but
remember creating a popular blog takes
time so focus your energy on writing
excellent blog posts instead next get
feedback use your blog to get invaluable
feedback on your new writing or ideas
for stories and new projects your
readers are an excellent resource for
this ask them questions get feedback and
you'll be able to use this to shape your
writing into something that people want
to read writing a blog can aid your
creative writing in so many ways so
instead of dragging your heels embrace
blog writing and learn how to make it
work for you and don't forget if he's
struggling to write or finish your book
our free writers toolkit can help with
it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book to get access now
while it's still available simply go to

Hello there is Peter here again from
writers life and coming up today how to
get your self-published book into book
stores if you have self-published your
book you may be wondering what to do
next
of course there's nothing better for an
author than seeing their work proudly
displayed in a book shop without a
publishing house taking on your work
however this could be tricky
big bookstores rarely carry books that
have been self-published or only
digitally put this may come as a
disappointment to those thinking that
simply by their publisher offering the
book to the trade that it will be sold
in all the major bookstores in the
country the truth is however these large
chain bookstores only take on a small
number of books each year and in fact
even if your book was picked up by a
smaller publishing house
it doesn't guarantee that your novel
will physically be available in the
shops however your dreams have seen your
book next to some of the country's Grace
doesn't have to be over just yet
there are some alternative approaches
you can try that mean you can get your
book into book stores and change the
minds of the bigger book shops such as
Barnes & Noble and borders first get
practical in order for your book to be
sold via bookstores it needs certain
things firstly it must have an
international standard book number by
SPN or a bar code and this should be
printed on the book cover filling out
the advance book information
or the ABI means your book will be
listed in books in print this is the
primary directory where booksellers
order their books so without this you
are unlikely to guess anywhere next get
professional you need to make sure your
book is printed to the highest standard
by this I mean get a professionally
designed book cover don't do it yourself
unless you're exceptional and design and
have experience designing covers that
sell also make sure it's printed and
bound correctly bookstores are unlikely
to stop comb bound or saddled stitched
at stapled books next understand your
book is a product just like any other
product it needs to be saleable the work
you need to do in order to write a book
itself should start before you even
begin writing make a business plan for
your book do some research around
similar books ask yourself why people
will want to buy it and who those people
are you need to be able to justify why
you think people or rather lots of
people will come into the bookstore and
buy your book otherwise it is just not
worth the shelf space next market your
book if you don't have the backing of a
huge publishing house behind you you're
going to have to sell it yourself build
up a following your fans organize a book
tour go to events do book signings send
press releases ask for reviews and use
social media to try and get your book
talked about in any way you can if you
can build a Pinterest your book just
might catch on and if you can prove how
well it is doing digitally you
well convinced big-box stores it is
worth taking it on in print next
negotiate give bookstores a good deal
they are unlikely to be willing to pay
more than half the cover price anyway
but if he can negotiate with them and
offer a good Commission rate they're
more likely to take a risk
offering sale or return could also help
this is where if your books don't sell
they will be returned to you and any
money paid refunded to the bookstore
this provides a guarantee that they
won't lose out by investing in you our
next go local if you aren't having any
look with larger book stores and try
local independent ones if you can sell
yourself as a local author particularly
if your book is based in the area or is
of interest to local people this will
give them more of a reason to stock it
remember that even if you don't get your
book into the stores it doesn't mean it
can't be a success and you should still
mark it and promote it any way you can
it can be daunting but if you follow
these suggestions and keep persevering
then regardless if you make it into
bookstores or not you could still sell
your book and be proud of your
achievements and don't forget if you're
struggling to write or finish your book
our free writers toolkit can help with
it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access now while it's still available
simply go to

Hello there is Peter here again from
writers life and coming up today the
best practice exercises to improve your
writing when it comes to writing
practice makes perfect and while it's
all well and good to write as much as
you can it's also well worth trying to
learn as much as possible about the art
of writing - most writers are
self-taught and that's brilliant
but for those who want to take their
writing to the next level to experiment
or to learn about different writing
techniques and methods they need to sit
down read and learn and then try them
out for themselves so here are some of
the best practice exercises to try and
improve your writing a great way to
improve your writing is by editing
someone else's work it's all too easy to
get so caught up in our writing and not
see the mistakes or the places where the
prose could do with some improvement
editing other people's work trains us to
be able to spot these errors more easily
when we return to our own pieces we'll
be better able to weed out problems and
inaccuracies rewrite or extend a short
story find a short story that you love
this could be anything from a classic
fairy tale to one written by one of the
greats think about how you could rewrite
it from a different characters
perspective or in a different setting or
certainly you could write about what
happens next
extend the story while trying to emulate
the style and tone of the original
writer this will help you to think about
different points of view as well as
learn about
for writers voices and see whether or
not you can emulate another writers
style or if your unique writing voice is
too strong
next creates new connections we all need
to give our creative selves a boost from
time to time creating new connections
can do just that and inspire us with new
ideas for our work going forward to do
this write for headers on pieces of
paper people places things and themes
they write five things underneath each
header for example Grandma Scotland
photographs love tear up the paper and
put all these in a hat and then pull out
different mixes to create new
connections and see what inspires you to
expand next work out what works well
this exercise takes time it can help a
writer genuinely understand what works
in a story take the top three
best-selling books in your genre and
read them as you do make a timeline of
the action then examine the characters
and how they develop and grow then study
the language they also uses my
descriptions and imagery and how they
manage to build the world of people
within them make as many notes as you
can and then compare the three pulling
out any similarities doing this will
help you get to the core of what makes a
story successful and you'll be able to
apply your newfound knowledge to your
own work a next mind-mapping
and free writing sometimes the oldest
techniques are the best
free-writing where you allow yourself to
write whatever is in your mind with
complete freedom can help you loosen
your creative cogs and give you new
ideas mind mapping where you start with
a central concepts or character and then
add different layers of detail branching
off from this can help you organize your
thoughts and come up with new avenues
that you may not have thought of
otherwise so they have it the next time
you feel as though your writing could do
with a bit of a boost or you're curious
to learn something new
give these writing exercises ago and see
if they can help to make your writing
better easier and more interesting - and
don't forget if it's drawing to write or
finish your book our free rights as tool
kit can help with it you'll learn how to
overcome procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get

Hello there is Peter here again from
writers life coming up today how to
shock your readers no one likes to read
a boring story and a story that doesn't
shock your readers and reveal things
they don't expect runs the risk of being
just that not every story needs to be
jam-packed with twists and turns in
every corner however an action-packed
story that leaves your readers feeling
exhilarated and on the edge of their
seats will make them hungry to know what
happens next
and keep them turning those pages so how
can you shock your readers create
tension in your story and make sure your
plot packs a real punch
here are some helpful tips first raise
the stakes
your protagonist needs to be seeking
something and the story is their journey
trying to get there to create tension
and suspense you need to raise the
stakes what are they willing to risk or
lose to get what they want what happens
if they don't succeed make your story
erasing its time making your character
willing to risk losing everything there
are so many ways to raise the stakes and
doing so will keep your readers Haupt
next kill someone as a writer you have
the power over who lives and who dies in
your stories the ultimate way to shock
your reader is to kill off a character
never expect to die be brave in your
choice don't make it someone minor that
no one cares about but someone central
and who they have invested their
emotions into instead next make your
characters start to doubt themselves
bringing doubt into a character's mind
is a great way to keep readers guessing
if a character starts to question
themselves
it can make readers begin to question
them too
suddenly the world they are residing is
a very different place and nothing is as
it once seemed unnecessary of course
nothing works better to shock your
readers than a classic plot twist they
think they know what's going to happen
next and then suddenly BAM something is
revealed or occurs that they could never
have guessed and it leaves them reeling
plot twists usually work better towards
the end of the novel giving you time to
tie up all the loose ends and bring the
story to a satisfying conclusion
whichever way you decide to shock your
readers it's important to remember that
there are right ways and wrong ways to
do so everything you include in your
novel should advance the plot contribute
to the theme and be plausible within the
confines of your story and the world
you've created shocking your reader can
create excitement suspense and tension
all of which will delight your readers
so make sure you remember to add some
elements of surprise in your writing and
use these tips to help you and don't
forget if it's struggling to write or
finish your book
all three writers to kick and
with it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access now while it's still available
simply go to
that's it for now

Hello there it's Peter here again from

writers life and coming up this time how

to create the perfect plot twist writing

great plot twists can be incredibly

effective but doing so it's not as easy

as you might think so here are some tips

to help you first get into the readers

mindset one of the most helpful things

any writer can do is to try to read

their story as if they didn't know it

a successful plot twist relies on the

reader being shocked because something

unexpected happens but at the same time

the twist must be plausible by putting

yourself in the readers shoes you can

try to see what might be obvious and

discard these as potential plot twists

ideas the reader needs not to be able to

second-guess the twist otherwise it'll

be ineffective so try to come up with

something that will ultimately take them

by surprise

next employ misdirection is

a smart device to help make plot twists

more powerful but it must be used with

great subtlety otherwise readers will

feel cheated

you can drop hints and make suggestions

that something is about to happen or

bring their attention to something or

plant red herrings to guide your reader

to believe something is coming and that

isn't then instead leave them gobsmacked

at the actual turn of events next leave

clues a plot twist can't come from

nowhere but a good one also won't be

guessed by your reader before it's

revealed how do you manage to balance

this by leaving extremely subtle hints

throughout your story these might be

seemingly unimportant things that your

reader notices at the time but quickly

for

and it's only when the twist is revealed

that they can join the dots and suddenly

see that it was right there in front of

them all along next make sure it's

necessary not all God's stories need a

plot twist so don't put one in just for

the sake of it a good plot twist is

essential to make the story work it's

believable and make sense a plot twist

that is too far-fetched will merely

leave your reader feeling confused and

cheated at the ending and they were

hoping for readers need their emotional

investment in your story to pay off if a

plot twist makes them feel deceived they

won't buy into it and he could risk

ruining your whole story next twist a

plot twist within a plot twist detective

fiction of crime novels often use the

clever device are presenting a plot

twist to the reader and then suddenly

revealing another even more shocking

plot twist later on just when the reader

gets comfortable again and thinks all

has been revealed

they are hits with an even more

incredible revelation which leaves them

reeling but totally hooks to your every

word remember not every story has a

happy ending it's so easy to finish your

story

with a happy hour vibe but sometimes

it's far more effective to create an

unhappy ending if your readers love your

characters they probably want everything

to work out for them and if your plot

twist is that it doesn't this can be an

effective way of engaging with the

reader even if they shed a tear at the

end next don't run out of steam your

plot twist will probably be revealed

towards the end of your book but don't

invest all your creativity in a

mind-blowing plot twist only to then

have your story limp off into the night

make sure you have enough

energy left to right a brilliant and

satisfying ending to if you want to make

your readers jaws drop use these tips

doing so will help to create your Matic

plot twists and keep your readers hopes

on your story until the very last word

and don't forget if you're struggling to

write or finish your book our free

writers toolkit can help with it you'll

learn how to overcome procrastination

get organized

stay focused fine types are right and

finally get your book published to get

access now while it's still available

Hello there is Peter here again from
writers life and coming up today how
your mood affects your creativity
writing productively means being at your
most creative self however being
creative when you're not in the right
frame of mind is incredibly difficult as
writers we are told how important it is
to get into the writing routine and to
write every day if possible but our mood
can sometimes stand in our way
mood affects so much of what we do our
relationships and interactions with
people our productivity how we see and
value ourselves and how we see and value
in the world a negative mood can affect
our energy our sense of self-worth and
mean that we don't engage with people
and opportunities as we should a
negative mood can also be very
distracting meaning we don't focus on
what we want to focus on instead of
letting the thing of things that are
bothering us take over and cause chaos
likewise if we are in a positive mood
this can also change our perception and
affects how we act a happy mood can make
us feel excitable energetic and we are
more likely to view the world as a
positive place to notice opportunities
and to let things that would usually
bother us and slide however a happy mood
doesn't necessarily mean a productive
one either happiness can make this
dreamy and distracting - there's no
escaping that our mood can affect how
what we write and it is therefore
essential to pay attention to this and
harness it to make our writing better
particularly foul mood might not be the
best mindset to write a beautiful love
scene for example a furious battle or
spiteful fight however might turn out
better if we are feeling a little dark
when we attempt to write it a particular
mood could make the outcome a different
story altogether it may spark a
different sorts of creativity and take
us to places we didn't think we were
going a writer in a particularly happy
mood might find it so hard to access the
deeper recesses of their emotions and
instead of writing that courtesy that
heartbreaking chapter and so on they
instead show mercy and change the plot
so the story takes on a different more
lighthearted tract
accessing deep feelings is vital for any
writer and being able to translate how
we feel into our work to make our
characters emotionally engaging is a
great heights of creativity and skill
however the relationship between our
mood and our creativity is an elegant
and delicate balance we may at one
moment feel excited and inspired and the
next feel frustrated and begin to
question our ability of course an
extreme move either way is going to be
challenging to write in in these moments
it might be best to abandon your writing
project but instead try to capture the
emotions you feel separately perhaps the
keys maybe not to battle the old mood
but instead to flow with it and hope
that your creativity can emerge
regardless how does your mood affect
your writing why not let us know and
don't forget if he struggling to write
or finish your book our free writers
toolkit can help with it you learned how
to overcome procrastination get
organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally getting your public

available simply go to

Hello there is Peter here a game from
writers life and today top tips to help
you focus one thing all writers need to
be able to have is more focus whether
you're working on the next chapter for
your kick-ass novel or pulling together
information to write a hard-hitting
article it's imperative that you can
concentrate on the task in hand this is
however easier said than done many
writers discover that not only finding
time to sit down a write but doing so
without distractions or other things
getting in the way is their number one
productivity problem so how do we teach
ourselves to be better app focusing here
are some useful tips and tip number one
is ditch the gadgets so you might need
your computer to write and you might
need the Internet to research but that
is it if possible try to gather all your
research together before you begin so
you can have blocks of time when all you
need to have an open on your computer
it's the document you're writing and
that's it
switch off any notifications close your
email and perhaps most importantly turn
off your mobile phone next take some
proper time out scoffing down some lunch
in our desks isn't the way to keep us
focused and product
you may feel as though it's better to
try to keep working but without regular
breaks in different settings we soon
tire and that's when our focus begins to
wander go outside take a walk look at
some beautiful things get some fresh air
do whatever you can to switch off for a
while and you'll return to work feeling
refreshed and ready to concentrate on
the task at hand
next make boring tasks interesting it
can be challenging to remain focused if
we find out what we are doing boring or
repetitive in writing there may be parts
that you don't love such as editing for
example the key to staying focused is to
find ways to make these tasks more
stimulating this may be as simple as
changing your setting do all your
editing in a great cafe for example
listening to some upbeat music or only
doing short bursts before switching to
something else our next tip motivating
yourself another key to keep in focus is
to stay upbeat and positive keep telling
yourself that you can complete what you
need to do imagine how you'll feel at
the end of a productive day and you can
even come up with a reward system to
bribe yourself into working harder and
achieving your goals next break things
down work out what you need to do and
when stay organized creator to-do list
each day and tackle the harder more
time-consuming tasks first otherwise
you'll avoid them until you've
conveniently run out of time
be wary of multitasking is our next step
well multitasking can be an effective
way of making progress on several
different aspects of your writing if you
tried to juggle too much you will
increase the likelihood of getting
muddled and feeling as though you have
made no progress and are doing nothing
well next ask yourself helpful questions
sometimes to keep focused we need to
remind ourselves why a task is necessary
before you start working ask yourself
the following but do I need to do why do
I need to do this what do I hope to gain
from doing this what do I need to do to
complete this when will I finish this
doing so will help to summarize why the
task is important and exactly what you
need to do to complete it successfully
these tips can help writers stay
positive productive and happy so next
time you fill your attention wandering
use these techniques to remain focused
on the task at hand and you'll feel so
much better for it and don't forget if
you're struggling some rides or finish
your book our free writers talking can
help with it you'll learn how to
overcome procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access now while it's still available
simply go to
that's it

Hi there its Peter here a game from
writers life and coming up today what
drives your writing while we writers
love what we do no one said it was easy
more often than not writing can feel
like a bit of an uphill struggle so why
do we do it what drives us to keep going
even in the face of self-doubt rejection
loneliness and vulnerability what keeps
us motivated even when we feel like
every criticism is personal what makes
us right even when our minds do
everything to distract us and we realize
we haven't taken a day off in years
every so often it's good to take a step
back and remember what it is that makes
us right what keeps us passionate about
our writing it stops us from packing it
all in even when the going gets tough
while everyone has their reasons here
are some of the common drivers that keep
us writing sharing our wisdom knowledge
and stories with the world writers have
a desire to tell people things they want
them to understand the information to
believe in the stories to feel the
benefits of the things they know the
places they've been the people they've
met and the things they've seen and done
writers want to share their experience
of the world to relate to our readers
there's nothing more satisfying in the
world than the knowledge or even a hope
that our writing has touched our readers
in some way whether it motivates them to
make the change inspires them to keep
soldiering on heals their broken hearts
helps them move on let go shed a tear
smile or laugh out loud the fact that it
can relate to people on that raw and
human
level is a great motivator to find
meaning in our own lives
writing is incredibly cathartic there's
no denying that by writing our stories
we can know ourselves better unlock
things we've kept hidden but make the
things that have confused us or to work
through things that we felt too scared
to face exploring emotions relationships
and other worlds can be exceedingly
helpful and healing and enrich the
writers life just as much as those of
the people who read their stories to
learn and improve there's always more to
learn and ways to improve our writing to
better ourselves to experiment and find
different paths to explore writing is
excellent for that as it gives the
writer limitless opportunities to
express their creativity and showing
once creative self is incurably
satisfying indeed writing is a gift that
gives in so many ways while it demands a
great deal and can be exhausting
frightening and disappointing it's these
things that makes it so worthwhile
my writers have the drive the passion
and the desire to keep writing despite
all that what drives you to write why

Hello again is Peter here again from a
writer's life and coming up today how
does social media affect our writing the
way we access our information has
changed hugely over the past decade or
so writers have been told time and time
again that readers have increasingly
short attention spans we also know that
competition for the reader's attention
is more intense than ever before the
rise of social media has dramatically
affected the way that readers access
information and absorb it a considerable
number of people who used to sit back
with a newspaper or book now get their
information and entertainment via a
screen but how does this affect the way
that writers write should we adapt our
writings so they can be consumed by this
hugely yet distracted audience in a
different way the answer is both yes and
no there are always going to be readers
who want to indulge in the pleasure of
reading how it used to be those who are
looking for a riveting tale to get lost
in as they sip cocktails on a Sun
Lounger on holiday all those who are
travelling to faraway lands and want a
fantastic inspiring story they can read
as they embark on epic journeys across
the globe however there is a vast market
ready and waiting to lap about writing
online if it's presented to them in the
right way we scroll throughout Facebook
feeds and click on things that pop up
that look interesting too
so writing attention drumming headlines
is vital we read tweets where you are
restricted in how much you can reveal so
to be effective you must be able to say
what you want to say in a limited number
of words we looked at Instagram where
you can create stories through a
collection of images that must work as
one to create a lasting impression on
the observer writers don't have to
change the way they write but if they
want to make an impact on social media
they have to adapt and conform to its
limitations and its opportunities to a
21st century writer must be flexible and
willing to learn how to manage social
media and use it to their advantage
teaching ourselves how to write short
impactful sentences can ensure our
readers remain focused learning how to
turn the heads of readers whose
attention was elsewhere and get them to
lean in and to want to learn or can
increase our fans and followers by
significant numbers discovering new
trends and creating our own and pitching
new ideas bringing something fresh
exciting and relatable to these
platforms will give us a voice that
stands out engaging with social media as
a writer may mean adapting one's writing
to communicate better via these avenues
these days avoiding social media only
makes our job harder and while our ideal
readers might be those sipping cocktails
under an umbrella with all the time in
the world on the hands if we don't try
to engage with the others we are
dismissing a significant potential
readership
who could be our next and biggest fans
and don't forget if you're struggling to
write or finish your book our free
