Hello again it's Peter here from
Writer's life and today how to recharge
your motivation there are of course ups
and down periods in your life success is
easy to achieve when you're going
through an up period however when you're
going through a down period success can
be scarce when you encounter a down
period it can be so hard to stay
motivated upon waking up you relinquish
the thought of working the problem is if
you spend too much time in a down period
there's a chance you may never get out
when you feel yourself going through a
down period the best thing you can do is
to acknowledge it straight away
the first step to recharging your
motivation is becoming aware why you're
not motivated to work this usually comes
from pushing yourself too hard and not
taking your brave or is from
encountering a failure and you don't
have the will to push yourself forward
anymore once you're aware that you're
not motivated then you can put the focus
back on making yourself motivated again
it will not be an easy process and you
need to start small you can't go from
not working to suddenly wanting to work
10 hours a day again you can do this for
a week but I guarantee that you'll be
back to not working once the week is
over so start with working one hour each
day what you'll do
doesn't have to be intricately related
to work it could be a passion of project
it's anything just will get your mind
thinking again your end goal is to
create momentum for yourself once you
work an hour per day for a week then
increase it the following week and the
week
after so you're working eventually 8 to
10 hours per day again when you create
momentum for yourself
you're able to recharge your motivation
and get back to your old self
and don't forget if you're struggling to
write or finish your book our free
writers toolkit can help with it you'll
learn how to overcome procrastination
get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access now while it's still available

Hello there is Peter here again from
Writers Life and today alternatives to
writing a book many of us start out by
knowing that we have something inside us
a burning desire to put our thoughts
down on paper to express ourselves
through stories through our words the
natural choice seems to be to write a
novel this is the ultimate goal and
sometimes it feels as the writing a
novel is the only way to be a successful
writer the problem is that writing a
novel is hard it's time-consuming
challenging and we all know that there
are very slim chances that we will get
our books out there published and read
by many people so perhaps it's time that
writers considered the alternatives to
writing a book it's silly that novel
writing seems like the be-all and
end-all when there are so many more
options out there could it be that
writers put too many of their hopes and
dreams into writing their books when if
they had stopped and thought about what
they wanted to achieve it might be that
an alternative Avenue is better for them
but what are the alternatives to novel
writing that we can consider let's take
a look at some of them now first writing
a play whether for the stage or for
radio there are plenty of opportunities
to try your hand at playwriting imagine
access realizing your vision on the
stage or writing the next popular radio
drama this could be a fantastic and
creative alternative to writing a book
next writing a blog many authors write
blogs anyway but tend to try and juggle
these with their book writing perhaps
it's time to focus your attention on
your blog entirely
imagine what it could be if you put all
your efforts into it and wrote about
whatever you wanted blob writing can be
a great way to boost your profile and
debate money to the next short stories
instead of the mammoth task of writing a
book why not consider writing a short
story collection writing great short
stories requires real skill and is
always good practice if you do go on to
write a novel later a next poetry have
you ever considered trying to write a
poetry collection while being a novelist
doesn't necessarily translate to being
good at poetry it could be an exciting
side project or alternative writing
poetry can be very cathartic can help
you tap into your emotions and learn how
to be smart with language all great
skills for any writer a next article of
course there is also always the option
of writing articles as a freelance
writer while this may not fulfill your
creative needs as much as fiction
writing would freelance writing can be a
great way to keep practicing and if you
write about your passions you are sure
to enjoy as well as potentially make
some money too and next film or TV
scripts why not set your sights sky-high
and try to write something for the big
screen or the next popular TV sitcom
there are plenty of opportunities out
there to write scripts and it might just
end up making a hit so you see there's
no reason why you can't put as much
creativity and emotion and as much of
your heart and soul into writing any of
these things as you can with a novel
being a writer doesn't mean you have to
write a book so perhaps we should all
start thinking differently experimenting
with other projects and seeing if maybe
we can't find more success and more
satisfaction by turning our attention to
writing
different things and don't forget if
it's struggling to write or finish your
book our free writers toolkit can help
with it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized stay
focused
find time to write and finally get your
book published to get access to it now

Hello its Peter here again from Writer's
life and today the best ways to enhance
creativity being creative is an integral
part of being a writer without
creativity our ideas dry up we find it
hard to concentrate and we can't get
into that beautiful writing zone where
the word seems to just flow freely from
creativity and being able to express
that creativity is crucial and makes us
happier healthier and more motivated to
however even the most creative writers
go through periods where they find it
difficult for the inspiration to keep
coming and it's all too easy to get
stuck in a downward spiral once that
happens for creativity doesn't like to
be pressured and sometimes the more we
try to be creative the less we find
incomes so what can we do to enhance our
creativity and keep those ideas coming
here are a few tips first get out there
it's hard to find inspiration by just
sitting in the same place day in and day
out
grab your noble and head out into the
world go for a walk sit on a bus head to
a cafe write down everything that
interests you and pay attention to the
little details of things next listen to
music music can be so inspiring creates
playlists of tunes that you know will
uplift you energize you
and boost your mood the effects of music
to make us feel differently is powerful
so use it to your advantage
and next meditates or just be silenced
sometimes you just need to try and let
go of everything clear your head and
just be silent for a while
meditation is excellent for learning to
relieve your mind and let go so why not
give it a try and next get a second
opinion talking things through to make
all the difference so don't be afraid to
us for help when you feel as though you
are stuck with your writing bouncing
ideas of someone else and just being
around other creative people can leave
you feeling inspired and motivated once
more uh next my favorite have a glass of
wine this might not be for everyone but
having a glass of your favorite tipple
to put you in just the right frame of
mind to get you right in once more
and next exercise exercise is known to
release feel-good endorphins which will
help you relax and feel positive and
confident essentially greed ingredients
when it comes to optimizing your
creativity a next sleep if we are
sleep-deprived we are more likely to
feel anxious overwhelmed and stressed
out make sure you get enough sleep to
keep you feeling fresh and focused all
day long a next tried something new a
new experience can leave us feeling
exhilarated and creative so if you're
stuck in the same old routine doing the
same things day in and day out
perhaps it's time to shake things up a
little and next write down your problem
if you think it might be creatively
blocked because you have other things on
and try writing them down writing our
problems down to put them in in
perspective they also mean you have
acknowledged them while allowing you to
set them aside for a while so you can
get on with your writing and so there
you have it
next time you're feeling a little
creatively blocked try these tips to
enhance your creativity and sue you
should get those creative juices flowing
once more and don't forget if you're
struggling to write or finish your book
our free writers toolkit can help with
it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized stay
focused
find time to write and finally get your
book published to get access now while
it's still available simply go to

Hello there it's Peter here again from
Writer's life and today what skills does
a good writer need when it comes to
being a successful writer it's about so
much more than merely putting pen to
paper there are so many skills that a
writer needs to employ not only to write
well but also to cope with the stresses
and pressures of the job working on all
your skills will keep you being of the
very best you can be
so let's take a look at the strengths
and skills every writer needs and how we
can work on them to become better more
productive and proficient at what we do
so first of all communication skills
being able to openly express your ideas
is what being a writer is all about of
course it's important to be able to do
so on paper however having the ability
to speak about your ideas to summarize
them succinctly and also listen to
feedback from others and ask the right
questions is also so useful when it
comes to realizing your writing vision
next observation and detail writers need
to be super observant they need to have
their eyes wide open at all times and
pay attention to the little details of
things being observance is not just
about looking around you however it's
also noticing the way people behave
interact and react and the ability to
understand and tune in to their
motivations for doing so being a great
observer of the world will help you
develop your characters and create your
own fictional worlds in an authentic and
exciting way next problem-solving all
writers come up against various problems
as
and being a good problem solver is so
important you need to be able to analyze
your ideas as well as be impartial and
notice the strengths and weaknesses in
your text and come up with workable
solutions to help your characters
overcome obstacles and improve your
writing as a whole and next patience and
calm writing is all about playing the
long game not only can it take a long
time to pull together a great piece of
work but waiting to hear back from
publishers takes ages to being calm and
positive about your writing even in the
face of rejection will also keep you on
the right track and minimize time spent
wallowing at next fearlessness writers
need to be brave they need to take risks
to step outside their comfort zone and
be ok with launching themselves into the
unknown playing it safe just doesn't
work for writers so make sure you always
write with courage and next spelling
grammar and punctuation skills yes on a
more practical note writers should
always work to improve their spelling
grammar and punctuation doing so will
enable them to craft a better prose from
the outset a reduced time spent editing
to next research skills an excellent
piece of writing usually requires a lot
of research being a good researcher
takes practice you need to know where to
find information the right questions to
ask and which bits of what you have
learned to include in your story to make
it more believable researching is a
skill that doesn't come naturally to all
writers but the more you do the better
you
will become when it comes to being a
good writer it's all about dedication
and practice if you want to be a
professional and productive writer it's
essential that you understand what
skills you need and keep working on them
to continually improve and don't forget
if you're struggling to write or finish
your book our free writers toolkit can
help with it you'll learn how to
overcome procrastination get organized

Hello it's Peter here again from Writer's
life and today avoid these blogging
mistakes every writer knows that one of
the ways you can attract a larger
following and connect with your fans is
by writing a blog however many writers
feel that they don't have the time or
would rather concentrate on that
fictional work well blogging doesn't
come naturally to all writers it's
something that can be incredibly helpful
when it comes to reaching new readers
and keeping in touch with your old ones
don't know wrong however and blogging
can damage your writing reputation so
here are some of the most prominent
blogging mistakes that should you decide
to write one of your own you should
avoid at all costs first you try to do
too much too soon set yourself realistic
goals when it comes to blogging if you
can only write one blog a week that's
fine
one good blog is better than seven half
odds and wonders as long as you are
consistent your readers will come to
know when they can expect new content
from you at the same time don't blog too
infrequently otherwise they will just
forget about earlier altogether a next
try too hard you should aim feel blog to
be informative and entertaining this
doesn't mean that you have to turn into
a comedian overnight
write what you know be human and tried
to pepper your writing with the odd bit
of humor now and again if he tried too
hard to be witty or funny the risk is
you could come across as rather
patronizing and annoying which will turn
readers away from you instead be clear
and compelling and people will respect
you for that
and next you'll I don't try to entice
your readers in with overly dramatic
headlines and then disappointing or
completely irrelevant content by all
means write catchy headlines that will
get readers to take notice of
click-through but if he consistently
under-deliver they'll soon catch on and
not bother to engage with your blog at
all next you can't accept criticism now
as writers you'd think we would all be
perfectly accustomed to accepting
people's not so complimentary reactions
to our world the truth is however it's
always going to hurt and if someone
doesn't like what you've written and
lets you know about it this can be hard
to take your might think because you've
spent your time carefully crafting a
blog post that you think will be helpful
and useful to your readers that they
should be happy to receive it well
unfortunately it just doesn't work like
that
use readers comments as feedback and try
to improve accept that not everyone will
like what you do if you can't do this
and any negative feedback is likely to
make you retreat into your writing shell
and never venture back out then perhaps
blogging is not for you but next you
hate it at the end of the day if you
really can't stand blogging it's so
likely that you're going to keep reserve
blogging is tricky you need to fill up
with new ideas for context and need to
set aside time at least each week to
write edit upload and share your
for them to have any effect at all
remember blogging is not the be-all and
end-all when it comes to marketing your
work so if you really can't stand it
it's probably not worth spending your
time on and don't forget if he's
struggling to write or finish your book
our free writers toolkit can help with
it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published direct

Hello it's Peter here again from Writer's
life and today how to make each day
effective when you wake up in the
morning what do you plan to do with your
day or perhaps you don't even have your
day planned
millions of people wake up without a
plan or even a goal set to make each day
effective you need to set many goals for
yourself when the Sun Goes Down and the
day comes to a close what do you wish
you will have accomplished most people
don't get the life they want because
they don't live each day effectively the
many goals you set for yourself should
lead you to a bigger goal the mini
course will lead to your weekly goals
which leads your monthly goals which in
turn will lead to your yearly goals what
you do today will impact how your year
goes you only have so much time in a day
so why waste it when you are setting
mini goals for yourself set 5 of them
for each day once you accomplish the 5
goals for the day you're done you can of
course do more but to keep yourself
hungry I'd recommend stopping at 5
before you burn out 5 tasks per day
might not sound a lot but that's 25 or
even 35 every week in a month you'll
have completed over a hundred tasks
towards your goals each task you
complete gets you to a better life if
you find that some goals take longer
maybe only set three goals for a certain
day sometimes I only set one goal for
myself because the goal is so big and I
know that I won't have time to complete
the other tasks the purpose of setting
mini goals is so you have a direction of
where you want to go with your day
otherwise you'll arrive at the
destination you don't want to be ants
when you set five mini goals for
yourself each day will be effective and
don't forget if you're struggling to
write or finish your book our free
writers toolkit can help with it you'll
learn how to overcome procrastination
get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
it now while it's still available simply
that's it for now be sure

hi I'm Jody from WritersLife.org
and today we'll be talking about what book
editors hate a piece of advice every
writer should follow is to hire a
professional editor to go through their
work once they have completed their book
however to actually prepare your
manuscript for that stage it's a good
idea to be aware of the common pitfalls
that writers fall into and if you know
what editors hate you can make their
lives easier and save you time and money
too not only is it good to look out for
and fix the mistakes that editors hate
before you send your book to them but
also for when you send your book to
publishers and agents if you want them
to seriously consider your work checking
that you have already eliminated any of
these editors bugbears from your book
before you send it off will give you a
much better chance of success so what is
it that editors hates let's take a look
no basic grasp of grammar or spelling if
every second word is a spelling mistake
and every sentence is punctuated
incorrectly it's going to take a huge
effort and many hours to get through
your book this will mean editors have
less time to concentrate on structure
character development and plot elements
which is important to receive feedback
on do yourself a favor and run your
manuscript through a spelling and
grammar check before you pass it on to
an editor huge passages focusing on
backstory having backstory is a useful
device for establishing your characters
and allowing the readers insight into
their past lives however if you focus
too much on backstory both the editor
and the reader will get bored include
details that are relevant and necessary
cut the rest out an entire chapter where
the character is walking somewhere
driving somewhere or sitting in bed
reminiscing an excellent book will be
fast paced and full of action if the
character spends too much time getting
somewhere or reminiscing about something
this slows down the pace of your book a
pet peeve of editors melodrama making
your story overly dramatic and make it
seem farcical and unbelievable readers
need to buy into your story to believe
it
editor's know that and so should you
making the same point over and over
again if you draw out a point
laboriously or repeat it in different
ways over and over again it simply looks
like you're trying to hit a word count
rather than write a story that appeals
to your readers you say something well
you only need to say it once going into
too much detail creativity is all about
having poetic license and beautiful
descriptions can be really effective in
a book and enhance your story
significantly however when you spend an
entire paragraph describing a vase in
your character's living room it better
seriously be significant otherwise you
need to cut it down over writing is a
big no-no for editor silly
inconsistencies when you are editing and
redrafting your novel look out for
inconsistencies these can be anything
from where character is standing to the
time of year inconsistencies are easy to
make but will frustrate your editor as
these should be picked up by you
repetitive vocabulary if you
continuously use the same descriptive
word this will quickly get tiresome for
your readers try to be unique and
exciting with all of your descriptions
if you know you've overused a word try
doing a Find and Replace search of your
manuscript so you can easily pick these
up and change them long passages of
dialogue dialogue creates immediacy can
drive the action forward and reveals
more about your characters however don't
turn every piece of dialogue into a
massive speech or monologue use it as a
device to break up the narrative instead
telling rather than showing editors hate
it when you tell the reader something
rather than showing them comb through
your novel and pick up instances of when
you're doing this this will save your
editor having to point them all out for
you if you can go through your
manuscript before you send it to an
editor agent or publisher and look out
for these 10 things you make their and
your lives so much easier so make sure
you take the time to edit your book
first thoroughly and you'll find you get
so much more out of your editor and are
more likely to have a positive response
from a publisher too don't forget if

Hello it's Peter here again from Writer's
life and today tips on how to bring
order to your writing writing is often a
chaotic and messy process often we have
so many ideas that we end up drowning in
a pile of half written sentences scraps
of paper a middle-of-the-night thought
so we have sleepily scribbled on a book
cover and now only partially makes sense
so how do you create order from the
chaos collating all your bits and pieces
of ideas can be tricky but if you can
find a system that works for you so weed
out all your creative flotsam and jetsam
you will find it so much easier to pick
out the great ideas from the nonsense
and hopefully then begin to turn them
into a brilliant piece of work here then
are some great tips to help you bring
order to your writing first create a
space filled chaos chaos book works
really well for this it could be a
notice board where you can stick up all
your scraps of paper sticky notes or
whatever else you've used to scribble on
or a black board or just stick some
large sheets of paper up on your wall
use this to capture your writing ideas
develop characters or note down
observations sentences or words which
you might want to use in your writing at
a later date having all these in one
place and a place where you can see them
all together at a glance will help you
order them together spend some time
moving them around and see what relates
to what or which ideas you can pull
together and expand on and next free
write often when trying to make sense of
an idea it can be a tough task trying to
put pen to paper and phrasing exactly
as you would like free writing is a
great way to simply let go and let your
imagination run wild to do this sit down
and start writing write whatever comes
into your head and don't stop if you
can't think of something to write simply
keep repeating the last word over and
over and to the yeah going again free
writing is simply about getting as used
to writing without that unhelpful in a
critique looming over us look back over
your free writing once a week and pick
out anything useful from the stream of
consciousness
you'll be amazed and how many little
gems you'll find next draft redraft and
then redraft again your first draft is
never going to be your final piece no
matter how good you think it is writing
is a craft and it takes practice to
perfect it you should always let
yourself write freely at first then
leave it for at least a day or two
before you look at it again bringing
order to your writing is all about
letting yourself go and then reining
yourself back in sentence by sentence
the pause here is important if you spend
hours on end fretting over your work
trying to perfect it putting sentences
here and there and changing bits of the
story there you could end up making it
into more of a mess always allow
yourself time to reflect before you go
back to your story a fresh mindset will
help you look at it objectively and
clearly see what works and what doesn't
writing chaotically is part of the fun
of being a writer letting your
imagination run wild and allowing
yourself be in a place where anything
goes can potentially be very therapeutic
however one of the most rewarding times
is when
sit down and work through the chaos when
you find those ideas that excite you
that give you that little spark that
nervous flutter that makes you think you
may just be on to something really good
and don't forget if he's struggling to
write or finish your book try our free

to overcome procrastination get

finally get your book published to get

hello there is Peter here again from
Writer's life and today past all present
tense the pros and cons when creating
any new piece of writing selecting the
tense in which to write is often
something and also struggles with not
longer your writing in the past tense
was strongly favored and particularly
with works of fiction it was very rare
to find a novel written in the present
tense however in recent years this has
changed and we have seen a shift to the
present tense with some writers
believing that writing using the past
tense makes the work itself seem somehow
old-fashioned so what has made the past
tense increasingly unpopular and the
present tense
now the tense of choice well it seems
for most seasoned writers it's an
instinctive and natural decision however
for many novice writers this is just
another choice to fret over so it's
important to understand what they have
Vantage's and disadvantages of each
might be so here we've broken these down
so authors can make an informed choice
when deciding which tends to write in so
first the present tense the prose
present tense creates immediacy in a way
that the past tense cannot it allows the
reader to experience changes in the
story and changes to its characters as
they happen this creates a bond between
the reader and characters as they
experience things together
simultaneously therefore tension
suspense and drama can be more easily
calm
vade characters become more lifelike and
tangible and real and selecting the
present tense when describing a
character truly reflects their nature
drawing the reader closer to them the
use of the present tense also reflects
the overall theme of the book if your
book tells the story of events that
happened to your main character in the
past but he or she tells them in the
present tense the effect can be very
powerful simply by telling the events in
this way the author is hinting at a past
that is very much part of the narrator's
presence and perhaps will always be so
using the present tense in your work
also simplifies how we use the other
tenses in the story when writing in the
past tense is slightly that a writer
will dip in and out of the other 12
tenses that we use in the English
language however using the present tense
restricts our use of the others with the
majority of stories written in the
present tense only using the simple
present the present progressive and
occasionally the simple past and simple
future even then the majority of the
writing is likely to be kept in the
simple present this simplicity can be
used cleverly to the writers advantage
conveying clear ideas and allowing the
reader to fully immerse themselves in
the story with no confusion about when
the events took place and now the
present tense the comments
if employing the present tense in our
writing
we become restricted with how we can
describe time try to manipulate a
sequence of events or change the
chronological order will be difficult
and potentially confusing to the reader
the point of the present tense is to
tell a series of events as they unfold
if you don't want to evoke the feeling
that what you are writing is happening
now then the present tense is not a good
choice building a multi-layered
characters is more of a challenge if you
use the present tense because you can no
longer influence the order of events or
the duration it's difficult to put
across the characters own personal
experience of the time how they
understand the past the more context we
have for a character the more we are
able to understand them and their
motivations for why they are a certain
way now without the kind of context
flashbacks into the past there is a risk
of the characters committeth across as
tediously uncomplicated suspense is
harder to convey with a story written in
the present tense the protagonists of a
present tense story don't have any idea
what is going to happen to them from one
moment to the next and subsequently
neither does the reader tension and
suspense come from having that knowledge
knowing that something is about to
happen whether the protagonist is aware
of it or not
finally if we are not careful use of the
present tense can cause us to be sloppy
while the past tense allows us to write
selectively and only include necessary
plot advancing details
using the present tense more naturally
encourages inclusion of mundane
irrelevant details because such events
will happen in a natural sequence of
time before beginning any work it is
worth thinking about which tense will
best suit your story each have their own
advantages which if use Cleverley could
enhance your work whatever you do make
sure you pick wisely as it's certainly
not an easy job to go back and change
when you are halfway through your book
and don't forget if you're struggling to
write or finish your book our free

Hi I'm Jody from Writerslife.org and today
we'll be talking about my failing can
lead to success
most people are free to failure when
they shouldn't be people let failure
dictate how they live and by doing that
they never reach their full potential in
fact failing often leads to success
I understand failing can be scary you're
normal to think you shouldn't want to
fail however those who are successful
are failing every day that's one of
their secrets to success when you go
through school you're told failing can
be bad and become discouraged from it
you take on this notion that failure is
bad or you'll be looked down upon if you
fail when most people don't realize is
that failure will get you one step
closer to success while also allowing
you to become resilient if you're not
failing you will never get ahead I want
you to understand the person who feels
the most and doesn't give up will be
successful how because if you continue
to put in the work no matter what
happens eventually you will achieve
success no one likes to fail and if you
get back up after each failure it will
pay in dividends if you're not feeling
how will you ever know how far you can
actually go each of us has so much
potential that never gets realized you
can achieve your wildest dreams if you
just allow yourself to fail when you
achieve your desired success how much
sweeter is it going to be and if it were
handed to you by failing your
achievement will feel that much better
think of anyone who has become
successful whether that's Steve Jobs or
Thomas Edison they both failed and they
were never perfect but they let their
failures take them to their greatest
achievements if they gave up at the
first sight of failure we would have
never known their names when you start
on the path of failure just realize that
you're one step closer to success and
don't forget if you're having a hard
time writing or finishing your book

hello its Peter here again from Writer's
Life and today how to write useful a
chapter outlines writing chapter
outlines can be an incredibly helpful
way of staying organized and motivated
to write your story many writers choose
to write chapter outlines before they
begin their book doing so means they can
see for sure that their story will work
it's a more detailed overview of the
plot down and how to ensure that each
chapter drives the story forward so what
sort of things are useful to include in
a chance at outline let's take a look
first focus on the key plot points
remember while your chunks are our lines
should be thorough
you also want to keep it succinct focus
on the key events that will take place
at the chapter note down the action
points and make sure they fit into your
story as a whole
next describe how your character feels
at the beginning and the end take some
time to think about how your character
is feeling at the beginning of each
chapter and how the events that take
place throughout it change them remember
your character should always be growing
and changing so make sure that you take
their emotions into account and next how
does each chapter flow to and from the
next each of your chapters should fit
seamlessly into your story and flow from
one to the other when creating your
chapter outline is to make sure they fit
into your overall plot if they feel
disjointed ask yourself if they are
really Ness
does your chapter start and end in a way
that grips the reader make sure that
every chapter in your book is gripping
it should start by immediately drawing
the reader in and immersing them in the
scene and should end in such a way that
they want to keep on turning those pages
next how does the chapter advance the
story
each chapter needs to have a purpose by
the time the reader has finished the
chapter the story should have moved on
if the chapter doesn't advance a story
it might need a revision or removal from
the book altogether remember to review
your chapter outlines frequently chapter
outlines shouldn't be rigid they need to
be flexible as when you begin to write
your story you could end up going on a
different track and that's okay just
make sure you review your chunks and
outlines while you were writing your
book and prepare to change them if
necessary spending time and making an
effort to write chapter outlines that
are really useful can make all the
difference when you begin to write your
novel providing structure and allowing
you to see your story as a whole so
whether you're just starting out or even
if you are halfway through writing your
novel
consider using chapter outlines to help
you write more efficiently and make sure
your story stays on the right track now
don't forget if you're struggling to
write or finish your book our free
writers toolkit can help with it you'll
learn how to overcome procrastination
get organized stay focused
find time to write and finally get your
book published to get access now while

Hello it's peaceful here again from
Writer's Life and today why reading
everything will make you a better writer
when it comes to improving our writing
one of the most important things you can
do is read reading is by far the very
best way to get inspired to learn to
experiment and find our own writing
voice and the more we read the more our
writing will improve many famous writers
have testified the same speaking about
how reading can have a profound and
exciting influence on the mind as the
great Stephen King said if you don't
have time to read you don't have the
time all the tools to write it's as
simple as that the great news is that
reading is a brilliant pastime too when
you're truly immersed in a great book
there's nothing quite like it you're
lost in another world and you can truly
let go of the stresses and strains of
everyday life so just how does reading
influence and improve your writing let's
take a look first it inspires you
reading as much as you possibly can is
by far the best way to get inspiration
for your work that's not to say you
should set out with the goal of copying
or pinching and other author's ideas but
allowing yourself to be inspired by
their work and purposely thinking about
the elements of their stories that
you'll love and how you could use them
in your own writing just makes good
sense and next it teaches you when you
read you are learning from the grades
your favorite authors are probably
pretty successful and by reading their
work and that of others you'll
understand that it's that that makes a
great story this knowledge is invaluable
to any writer and the more you read the
more insights
you'll discover next it helps you to get
to know as onra better and learn its
rules when you know what genre your book
is it's a good idea to read as many
books as possible those are in the same
genre doing so will help you discover
the various patterns that make a book
fall into that category and you'll begin
to understand the common themes and the
rules which can help you make sure that
when you write your own story you're
following these and are therefore more
likely to make it appeal to the right
readers
next it widens your vocabulary improves
your grammar skills and opens your eyes
to new techniques the more you read the
more educators you become not just
around the topics you read but also the
tools and structures that are necessary
to make a story flow well you will have
a more extensive vocabulary using
language creatively will come more
naturally to you and the way to pull
sentences together will also improve
think about it do you know any painters
who don't love art any musicians who
refuse to listen to music all creative
artistic people are passionate about
their art as a whole and use it to help
them become better at what they do the
same goes for writers without love and
passion for reading it will be so
difficult to come up with a story that
other people will love and enjoy too so
if you only take away one piece of
advice as a writer then it should be to
read read anything and everything your
life and the more you do the more
empowered knowledgeable and creative
you'll become now don't forget if you're
struggling to write or finish your book

Hi I'm Jodi from Writer'sLife.org and
today we'll be talking about how to
write the best romance novel ever
there's big money in writing a great
romance novel while other genres rise
and fall in popularity take fantasy for
example romance tends to be consistently
in demand so if you can write compelling
romance novel then you could potentially
see it turn into a timeless classic some
people think that writing romance should
be easy all you need is a strong
handsome hero and a beautiful heroine
who develop a relationship against all
odds right well this isn't entirely
untrue romance novels as with any genre
of writing tend to follow a formula
which makes them work the typical
romance needs a man and a woman who fall
in love yet there must be conflict and
struggle to make it interesting
the lovers must be kept apart they must
overcome obstacles and the readers must
be kept wondering and worrying whether
they will ever be able to truly be
together so how do you create this
conflict that keeps your main characters
apart your characters need goals and
reasons for these goals their goal is to
drive the plot forward and be the main
focus in terms of storyline however they
can also be used to create the conflict
between the characters and build up
dramatic tension perhaps their goals and
aspirations act as blocks which mean
your characters don't get together until
the very ends your characters goals need
to be hugely important to them and the
consequences of them not achieving their
goals should be severe there should
always be conflict in a romance novel
and this conflict should make the
readers wonder whether the characters
will actually end up the other or
tragically not how will your characters
relationship develop whether their love
is forbidden in some way think Romeo and
Juliet's they actively dislike each
other in the beginning they are best
friends who never thought of each other
that way or perhaps their histories are
entwined somehow but they are actually
yet to meet thinking carefully about
higher characters lives are intertwined
and how the relationship develops needs
to be interesting from the start your
character must be likeable for not
boring remember that romance novels are
generally character driven therefore it
is paramount that readers can engage
with the protagonists identify with them
in some way and
they want them it's to be together
remember to make your characters flawed
and imperfect your readers need to like
them otherwise they won't care whether
they end up together or not and the
success of your romance depends on your
readers emotionally investing in the
relationship and caring what happens to
your characters try to avoid stereotypes
some heroes and heroines have been done
to death and if you want to make your
romance novel stand out then think of
ways to make them more original both in
appearance and personality your ending
makes all the difference most people
tend to think of romance novels as books
that end happily of course this isn't
always the case there are plenty of
novels that could be classed as romance
novels but are also tragedies deciding
on whether your novel will end happily
well most likely depend on whether your
characters get together and live happily
ever after
or not of course your characters could
end up together but the sacrifices they
had to make to be together along the way
may mean the ending is bittersweet your
characters might not end up together at
all or perhaps they do and the story
answers the kiss a proposal and a
wedding writing a romance novel can be
lots of fun and following a few simple
rules you have the basic ingredients
needed to get started and then you can
really let your imagination run wild

Hi I'm Jody from writer'sLife.org and
say we'll be talking about indie authors
and the mistakes not to make being an
independent author takes courage and
determination and the rise of indie
author has been truly spectacular by
putting the power back in the writers
hands where before you had to be a
Headey combination of exceptional and
lucky to get published now good
old-fashioned hard work just might do it
if you are willing to put in the time
and work and give your all to your book
publishing project you may just get the
results you've been dreaming up however
let's face it most of us are pretty new
to the whole publishing world and are
pretty clueless when it comes to the
do's and don'ts of taking control of our
work it's fair to say that most
independent authors when they first
start out on their self-publishing
journey do you'll end up making a fair
few mistakes this isn't necessarily a
bad thing
mistakes are just lessons learned and
the more you make the more you'll
understand about the whole process
however being that there are lots of
things to consider here are some rules
and values that are a good idea to set
for yourself in order to keep you on the
straight path let's take a look at some
of them forgetting to research your
reader and your genre self-publishing
has given authors a fantastic
opportunity to get their work out there
into the world for all to see there are
so many rules around the way one should
write the restrictions of the genres
rewriting and the expectations of our
readers it is good to understand them as
much as possible for example if you have
written a romance novel research your
audience find out what they want and
what they expect from you that's not to
say you shouldn't give them any credit
however we are sometimes led to believe
that if we dare think outside the box in
terms of genre or try breaking some of
the rules our readers will run screaming
into the night believe it or not
sometimes change is embraced and
celebrated if you truly believe in your
story and changing it will feel like you
are selling out then don't do it be true
to yourself
and that's the most important thing
thinking you could do it all by yourself
if you don't get a professional editor
and designer to help you chances are
your book is going to look pretty shabby
against the competition you wouldn't buy
a dress with a hole in it so why should
you reader buy your book if it is full
of glaring mistakes and inconsistencies
if you care about your book and
to build up a fanbase then get the cover
designed by someone who knows what
they're doing and get an editor to at
the very least weed out any spelling
mistakes and inconsistencies printing
loads of copies of your book without a
distribution deal in place if you are an
unknown author chances are you aren't
going to be living in the castle and
eating your caviar for breakfast
so don't pour every last penny into
buying thousands of copies of your book
if you haven't got anyone lined up to
buy them you'll just end up with no
money low self-esteem and a lot less
space in your house order a handful of
copies to give out but that's it
remember while bulk printing may seem
cheaper you'll probably lose out in the
long run giving up after your first book
did you know that most authors find much
greater success on releasing their
second novel well it's true think about
it this way so many people dream of
writing a book and yet most people don't
if you've already done so and you are
miles ahead of those would-be authors
who simply can't find the time or energy
to write their stories now think about
all the writers who stopped after their
first novel especially if it doesn't do
very well let me tell you it is Lots if
you persevere you are constantly
knocking out the competition and you'll
only get better with time to just keep
writing keep focusing on your dreams and
you'll get there so don't give up there
are some of the most common mistakes new
indie authors can make what other advice
can you share we'd love to hear from you

Hello it's Peter here again from writers
life and today why your lack of focus is
holding you back have you ever thought
what's stopping you from becoming
successful you could probably say a lack
of money resources or you don't quite
know where to begin well the only thing
holding you back from starting a
successful business or becoming a
best-selling author is your lack of
focus when you like focus you can't get
anything done you're sleeping in or
playing on your phone when you don't
focus on the task at hand
you'll be unproductive and when you're
unproductive you'll fall into a life of
mediocrity and that's not what you want
some people spend countless hours each
day surfing the net or surfing their
phone or watching Netflix and can't
understand why they're not successful
well it's simple if you wish to become
successful you need to become focused
and focus like anything else is a habit
but how exactly do you become more
focused the number one step to becoming
more focused is through eliminating
distractions this means when you work on
a single task you work on that task
alone you don't pick up your phone or
browse the internet when you are done
with one task you move on to another
task your goal should be to complete
five tasks each day these are the five
tasks that will push you forward to your
desired success once you complete your
five tasks for the day then you're done
you can have as much lack of focus as
you want after that the key is this only
happens
once you finish your five tasks for the
day when you get control of your focus
you can become successful now don't
forget
if you're struggling to write or finish
your book our free writers toolkit can
help with it you'll learn how to
overcome procrastination get organized
stay focused find the time to write and
finally get your book finished to get

Hello its Peter here again from Writer's
Life and today how not to sound like a
pretentious writer when it comes to
writing whether it's fact or fiction
it's easy to sound pretentious this can
happen for many reasons be it that our
egos want the reader to know how
intelligent we are or that we think
readers won't enjoy our writing if we
don't make it as smart as possible
however the problem with putting too
much effort into writing intellectually
is that not only does it slow us down
and make this overthink things it can
also act as a distraction when it comes
to getting our point across or advancing
our plot so what can you do to ensure
that you don't sound too like a
pretentious writer try these useful tips
first check your language using an
abundance of long and complicated words
could put your reader off every time
they have to check the meaning of a word
you have effectively taken them out of
the story
if this happens too often it'll be
impossible to keep up either they just
won't be able to immerse themselves in
your novel or they just won't understand
it reading your writing allow it to get
an idea of whether it flows well or
feels too convoluted and complicated is
also a good idea next identify your
reader when it comes to avoiding
pretentious writing knowing who your
reader is can help think about who you
are hoping will read and appreciate your
work
if you're writing a fictitious story for
the general population you should try to
avoid creating a piece of writing that
is overly complex the average reading
level for an American adults is that of
a seventh or eighth grader an age nine
years old in the UK so it's essential to
bear this in mind as you write next have
fun with your writing writing should be
fun
and if you're not having fun and
enjoying what you do you're less likely
to get bogged down in trying to make
your writing seem too clever your
enjoyment and enthusiasm will come
through in your book and will mean your
readers enjoy reading your work more to
the more sincere and truthful you are
with your story the more genuine and
authentic it will seem too next don't
over complicate your plot an overly
complicated plot can be difficult to
follow and can confuse your readers well
it's great to be smart and surprise your
readers if you try too hard to confuse
them or make your story too complicated
to follow
they are simply lose interest and may
give up altogether don't over punctuate
over punctuating or try to be too smart
with your use of punctuation can also be
considered pretentious and may be
off-putting to your reader some authors
do choose to use punctuation as a
stylistic technique in their writing
however if you aren't sure it works it's
probably best and to leave it out by
following these tips you could ensure
your writing doesn't come across as
pretentious or confusing while still
being able to write with style remember
you can write however you like but if
you want your writing to be enjoyed by
others you do always have to keep your
reader in
mind now don't forget if you're
struggling to write or finish your book
our free writers toolkit can help with
it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized stay
focused

Hello there is Peter here again from
Writer's Life and today why stepping
outside your comfort zone is pivotal to
your success think about it do you know
anyone who's ever become successful by
staying within their comfort zone no you
don't because it's not possible when
you're going out into the world and
working on creating a better life for
yourself you're getting outside of your
comfort zone most people aren't like
that they like to stay within that
comfort zone
why do people stay within their comfort
zone I don't think most people dream of
working a dead-end job it's because when
they're growing up somewhere along the
line someone shot their dream down and
they've been believing that ever since
this could have come from a teacher or a
parent
perhaps friends are you one of those
people who had their dream shot down or
maybe you think you're not good enough
to succeed all you're doing is making
excuses for yourself why you're not
successful I understand getting outside
of your comfort zone is not easy I'm not
saying you should quit your job to start
them open-ended business idea you could
start to side hustle so eventually
you'll be able to quit your job and
you're into your business full-time
allowing you to get outside of your
comfort zone the life you desire to live
is on the other side of your comfort
zone if you're willing to push past any
fears you have you can get anything you
want
any athlete or businessperson had to
face their fears to achieve success when
you go through life you can become
complacent you fall into the same
day to day routine without notice before
you know it 50 years of your life has
passed I don't think you want to be that
person by taking risks stepping outside
your comfort zone you can begin to live
by deciding to step outside your comfort
zone you're deciding to make your own
life and forge a path of your own
destiny
now don't forget if you're struggling to
write or finish your book our free
writers toolkit can help with it you'll
learn how to overcome procrastination
get organized stay focused
find time to write and finally get your

Hello its Peter here again from Writer's
Life and today free up more time for
your writing how many times have you
said to yourself I could finish my novel
if only I didn't have to go to work
or to look after the kids or cook dinner
every night
it always seems that no matter how hard
we try there are never enough hours in
the day and since writing that novel
isn't an essential that s what gets put
on the backburner time and time again
however if we're really honest with
ourselves is it actually time that's
holding us back
think about it we get the same 24 hours
in every single day of our lives and
every single day we can make a choice
about what we do with them you have as
much time as the next person so when you
look at the author who juggles three
different writing jobs at busy family
life loads of social commitments yet
still manages to keep the novel's coming
remember that they have been given
exactly the same amount of time as you
writers make time for writing so can you
you just need to figure out how the
first thing you need to do and try to
find more time is to figure out how you
actually spend it at the moment write
down everything that you do each day
over the course of a week or to pay
attention to every little part of your
day and make sure you make a note of it
find the gaps reassess the things that
you're doing see where actually you are
wasting time and where you could
rearrange things to save time you'll
soon see that there are plenty of ways
you can free up time in your schedule to
make your writing happy
your relationship with time is down to
how you manage it and there are loads of
ways to change the pattern that you
currently find yourself in or indeed
make an entirely new one which leaves
you time to concentrate on doing the
things that you love the most sometimes
however when we make space to sit down
and write it can all go horribly wrong
if our days are tightly structured and
we have an hour reserved as writing time
yet when we sit down to get on with it
the creativity just isn't there just
remember that that's okay putting too
much pressure on yourself to write
amazingly well now is going to result in
you feeling trapped and therefore
rebelling against yourself
for instance refusing to write because
you have told yourself you must this
never works as we simply become more
frustrated with ourselves and end up
feeling guilty and annoyed and with
nothing to show for it either
however practice makes perfect it's all
about getting yourself into a good
routine once you've established this it
will become so much easier to write
productively
in those little windows you've opened
for yourself
and even if you feel you can't write
simply try to do something creative and
productive develop your characters write
a business plan for your book do some
research whatever it takes to advance
your novel and fill that time with
something that you can pat yourself on
the back for it'll leave you feeling
satisfied once you've done this a few
times and remove the pressure you'll
begin to relax and that's when the real
writing will start to flow we are not
given time to write we have to take it
and if you're serious about establishing
yourself as a writer then you have to
take it any way in which you can
unfortunately the universe your partner
your boss the kids may not say so you've
decided to write oh I never knew in that
case please have these three undisturbed
hours to yourself where no one will
bother you but that doesn't mean you
can't find the space to create writing
time
the reality is that no one cares more
about your writing than you do but if
you do care then there is no doubt that
you will find time to do it

write or finish your book our free

Hi I'm Jody from Writer's Life network
and today we'll be talking about five
things you need to know to create the
perfect villain creating characters for
your stories is one of the most exciting
and enjoyable parts of being a writer
and while we all have characters that we
completely fell in love with there is
nothing quite as satisfying as writing a
brilliant twisted villain villains are
so interesting they create contrast they
are the ones we love to hate they are
complex emotionally disturbed terrifying
figures and with them we can really let
our imaginations run wild trying to
create a character that you want your
readers to hates be repulsed by or
frightened of in my opinion is actually
more interesting and in some ways easier
than trying to write a character that
you want them to like so how do you
write a great villain here are some tips
to get you started
pick a type there are so many different
types of villains you can choose to
create in your stories they might be
psychotic killers evil superheroes
superficial snooty nasty individuals who
maliciously try to destroy other
people's happiness and a whole range of
different unsavory characters in between
choosing your villain and figuring out
how he or she will work in the story is
all part of the fun do your research a
great way to get a feel for how to write
a fantastic villainous character is to
read books of a similar style here you
can get ideas and inspiration of how
these wicked characters are used to
enhance the plot and the kind of
behavior speech and action that they
have the more you read the more inspired
you will be decide how much your reader
should hate them the most memorable
villains are complex characters with as
much depth and as many layers as those
heroes of your story don't neglect your
villains give them backstories and
in-depth personalities in order for your
readers to enjoy reading about the
villain they need to be interesting they
need to demand attention and provoke a
reaction deciding what you want that
reaction to be will help you craft your
evil character do you want your readers
to feel repulsed and afraid or do you
want them in some
to empathize with your villain and feel
sorry for them there is no reason why
you can't create a character that is
completely unlikable who never shows any
remorse for their actions but the
important point to remember is that your
readers still need to want to read about
them and if they don't it could ruin
your entire story decide how they will
end your villain plays a hugely
important role in determining what kind
of book you are trying to write if they
succeed in their evil schemes defeat the
hero or prevent goodness from happening
then your book will have quite a
different feel to one where even if
right at the last minute your villain is
defeated you don't necessarily need to
see your villain overcome by the end of
the book but if you don't then make sure
your readers are prepared for it push
the boundaries if you want to make a
truly original or despicable bad guy but
you need to come up with unique ways of
doing so don't be afraid to shock your
readers and push the boundaries of what
they have to come to expect in a villain
if you do then they will be all more
interesting and exciting to read
creating a fantastic and memorable
villain is hard work but thoroughly
rewarding and lots of fun - it's not
often we get to explore the darker side
to our creativity so just run with it
use these tips to guide you and see what
kind of evil bad guy you can come up
with and remember if you're having a
hard time writing or finishing your book

Hello it's Peter here again from Writer's
Life and today writing myths busted
whether you're a seasoned writer or just
starting out it's likely that at some
point or another you'll have reached out
to try and find some advice on the most
common mistakes that writers make what
to do and what not to do to ensure that
you don't fall at the first hurdle
the trouble is however that there is so
much advice out there and really when it
comes to being creative can there be a
one-size-fits-all rule some advice
hinders rather than helps writers so
remember when it comes to being told how
to write it is sometimes best to follow
your own instincts and do what feels
right for you however here are some of
the most common writing myths but don't
let them fool you
first of all writing is just easy for
some people let's face facts
some people might be really disciplined
others might be really talented but
neither of these things mean that
writing is a total breeze okay so here's
some people talking about writing being
a natural thing that they just felt like
they instinctively know how to do but
don't believe them no one picks up a
musical instrument for the first time
and starts playing to a professional
standard writing is much like this it's
a craft that you must learn and practice
the more you practice the more you
improve no one finds it easy it's about
hard work and discipline and only with
experience and dedication does it get
easier to do next you've got to have a
gift to write don't think that writing
can't be learned because it can while it
may be true that some people have a
talent for right
it doesn't mean that those who aren't
naturally inclined to write can't become
good writers the more you learn and
practice the better you'll get a next
writing isn't a real job writing is a
useful skill and spending your time
writing can open many doors in fact when
you think about it almost all
professions require writing in some form
or another so having a way with words
can really boost your career next
writing won't pay the bills the image of
the struggling but brilliant writer is
one that we are all familiar with but
really writing can be a rewarding
satisfying and lucrative career there
are many excellent salaried jobs out
there that you can work your way into or
should you choose to go freelance there
are now many different publications and
online jobs which are offering well paid
work if you want to be a fiction writer
sure it's a tough business trying to get
a book published but don't forget the
other options such as radio scripts
writing short story writing and many
more all of which can pay well are
easier to get into as well next writer's
block is a lie okay so this one is a
little tricky there can be times in
every writers life where they feel
uninspired to write all that someone
else put a total block on their
creativity
however writer's block is curable and
usually it rears its ugly head because
of what the writers themselves are doing
next time it happens try to understand
why is it because you are
procrastinating or refusing to write
unless the conditions are perfect
or perhaps the ideas simply isn't fully
formed in your head yet either way you
need to relax keep on working at it and
eventually you
yet there don't let your writing be
stalled or intimidated by these myths
put them to bed want some for all and
don't let anything stop you now don't
forget if you're struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers
toolkit can help with it you'll learn
how to overcome procrastination get
organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access now while it's still available
