------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hello there is pizza here again from
writers life and coming up today is
being a perfectionist holding you back
writers are well known for being
perfectionist and why not writing a
novel to be proud of takes considerable
time and effort and wanting to get it
absolutely right
before you send it to publishers or
share it with the world makes good sense
however there is a downsides of
perfectionism if taken to the extreme
while it's great to be contentious and
thorough in your work if you won't let
it go until there's a hundred percent
perfect you're going to come up with a
rather significant problem the problem
is no piece of writing is perfect that's
the truth of the matter even the most
well-received novels and celebrated
writers don't write perfect stories and
they certainly don't start out anything
near that way if you keep holding on to
the idea that you can make your story
perfect you'll never ever finish it so
how to recognize perfectionist behavior
and what to do about it if you're too
self-critical if you never share your
work if you edit your work so much that
you want even sure if you're making it
any better
you may well be a perfectionist here
then are some tips to help you get past
this first get your first draft written
tell yourself that you can perfect your
writing later and then focus all your
energy on getting that first draft now
if you can put aside your aspirations of
perfection until your first draft is
finished at least you've got the ground
load without letting your
factionism get in the way next be
realistic expense rejection expect to
feel uncertain expect to look back at
something you've written and feel
shocked and how bad it is this is all
completely normal
the reality is that most writers will
experience rejection and criticism and
that's okay if you can be realistic
about this and not let the fear of it
happening to you block you from getting
your work out there you will at least be
able to say you gave it everything be
willing to learn there are always
lessons to be learned when it comes to
writing from tips on how to improve your
prose to information about the writing
industry be open to learning as much as
you can
perfectionists often struggle with
feedback and advice so trying to open up
to learning experimenting and absorbing
input for others can be so helpful keep
practicing the more you write the better
you get but also the more you write the
more you will become used to the
imperfections in your writing keep
producing material keep tweaking it keep
adjusting and reworking and editing and
learn and grow as a writer and editor as
you do so learn when to stop accepting
that a perfect piece of writing doesn't
exist is the first step it's usually
important to work on our manuscripts
until we've created the world the caring
system the plot that we feel does our
story justice it's essential to redraft
and edit to these processes take time
and effort and can be very challenging
however this hard work is not to be
confused with perfectionism knowing when
to stop when you've done enough and when
you can be proud
satisfied with what you've achieved is
so important as JK Rowling once said
failure gave me an inner security that I
had never been said by passing
examinations failure taught me things
about myself that I could have learned
no other way embrace failure accept your
flaws and let go of perfectionism and
you'll be a more productive and happier
writer for it and don't forget if you're
struggling to write or finish your book
our free writers talking can help with
it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access now while it's still available
simply go to
that's it

Hello its Peter here a game from writerslife.org
and coming up today five in-demand ways
to make money as a writer digital
marketing engagement online advertorials
these are just buzzwords that marketers
throw around to sound smart they're
clear indicators of businesses growing
needs in the digital age why am i
bringing them up because over the past
few years there is a sharp increase in
the demands for certain types of content
and this demand only continues to grow
in this video then we'll explore what
these content types are why companies
need them and what you can do to land
such gaze first of all we'll start with
high quality blog posts businesses need
blog posts build communities increased
traffic and rank higher on Google
however with the search giant cracking
down on keywords tough posts and content
farms businesses have learned that they
need well researched high quality
content in order to compete and they're
willing to pay top dollar for it so how
do you land these types of gates asking
for referrals or directly approaching
prospects are ways to find clients to
blog forum to increase your chances of
securing again I recommend targeting
clients that either have an existing
blog or have established some sort of
social media presence ie they have a
Facebook Twitter or LinkedIn account why
because an existing blog or social
account is an indication that the
company already recognized the value of
online marketing chances are you won't
have to educate them on why blogging is
import
they already know that and they probably
just don't have the skills all the time
to take care of it it's much easier to
convert them compared to say a company
that doesn't heave even have a blog or
Twitter account yet okay next
ghostwritten blog posts CEOs and other
executives want to establish thought
leadership and authority by publishing
guest posts on reputable sites the thing
is these people may not have to time all
rightie skills to do it and that's where
you come in you can write blog posts on
their behalf and publish them on top
industry sites to build up your clients
reputation and position them as a leader
in their field so how do you land these
games executives that hire ghost writers
don't usually advertise the facts that
they do this so it'll be more effective
to approach prospects yourself
after your ghost writing services
connects with the company founder or CEO
directly and offer your ghost writing
services if you can't find their email
address on the company website connect
through LinkedIn what you could do is
find a thought leadership piece written
by their competitor send them the link I
offer to write something similar
next long-form web content such as
ebooks white papers guides and reports
these are meaty pieces their research
heavy and usually packed with statistics
studies and insights why the demand for
long-form web content well companies
have realized that educating users and
providing valuable content is one of the
best ways to reel in synote so leads and
use these materials to in sensitized be
to complete a call of action such as
getting on a list or requesting a demo
and how do you land these games reaching
out to new prospects may not be the best
approach here long-form web content gigs
are huge projects so companies won't be
inclined to hire someone they haven't
worked with before to land these gigs
consider up selling your long-form
writing skills to existing or previous
clients tell them about the benefits of
releasing white papers or ebooks and
then offer your services company emails
newsletters is next the nature and
subject matter of company emails and
newsletters courage from announcements
to staff picks - we miss you type emails
generally speaking though the goal of
email marketing is to keep in touch and
engage with existing customers or
subscribers so how do you land these
gates the key to convincing clients to
hire you is to show them that you
understand that their target audience
send them sample emails or links to blog
posts with compelling headlines an
engaging copy that demonstrates how well
you connect with people knowledge of
email marketing software is another
obvious plus so if you have any
experience with MailChimp or similar
services be sure to brag about it and
next web shopping such as home pages and
about us pages etc this is pretty
straightforward
there are more consumers and businesses
online than ever before so the demand a
compelling web copy is at an all-time
high how do you land these gates well
aside from seeking referrals inbound
marketing try approaching clients and
telling them what's wrong with there is
the existing website head to a prospect
site and look for typos and other areas
of improvement email them with your
suggestions and offered to take care of
their content needs part of being a
successful writer is also discipline if
you have a novel it can be an
interesting challenge try to reconcile
your creative side with the business
side it's important to stay disciplined
and on schedule so that's why you need
our free writers toolkit with it you'll
learn how to overcome procrastination
get organized
stay focused find time to write and if
you haven't done so already finally get
your book published to get access now
while it's still available simply go to

Hello Peter here again from writers
life coming up today how to find the
perfect person to critique your book one
of the most important things that any
rights you can do for themselves is get
some feedback on that word it might be
scary and hugely daunting to let someone
else read what you've written
however the sooner you get initial
feedback the better writers who choose
not to share their work with anyone run
the risk of writing an entire novel only
for someone to point out a fundamental
mistake we are often so immersed in our
stories that we can't see the flaws that
may be apparent to other people getting
feedback also helps the writer
understand what they need to work on
where they might need to rethink plot
points whether their characters are
working and what the good and
not-so-good bits are of course you don't
have to take every point on board but
without getting someone to critique your
work you can't be sure you are heading
in the right direction but who should
you choose it's effortless
not to mention convenient to pick a
person who you know will give you a
glowing report your best friend your mom
that person that you know has a massive
crush on you someone who owes you a
favor
however getting feedback about your
writing is pointless unless you know
it's a genuine an honest review of your
so here's how to find the perfect person
to ratite your work first someone who
knows you there's nothing wrong with
asking someone who knows you to critique
your work but if you do need to do that
make sure that your relationship with
that person doesn't get in the way of
how they honestly feel about your work
if you know that they are the kind of
person that couldn't bear to hurt your
feelings then there isn't really any
point someone who knows you will want to
like your book and we'll look for
positives and words of encouragement and
there is nothing wrong with that as long
as they can constructively and point out
where you need to change things to a
next a stranger finding someone who
doesn't know you to see your work can be
a way of knowing for sure you're getting
an honest opinion a person who doesn't
know you has nothing to lose by telling
you the brutal truth about your book
there are many writing forums out there
where writers can exchange their work
and give one another feedback of course
most have rules about giving criticism
only if it's constructive so you don't
have to worry about someone being too
cruel simultaneously be prepared to hear
perhaps things you don't want to next a
professional getting a professional
editor to receive your work is ideal
they have the experience knowledge and
skill to give you a thorough and
in-depth review of what needs to change
what works and what doesn't however
unless you happen to be connected with
someone in the industry you're likely to
have to pay
service annexed a group joining a
writing group can be hugely beneficial
for so many reasons one of them is that
you get to share your work with a group
of fellow writers who know exactly how
to give useful feedback then you can
choose to take on board or not joining a
writing group also means you get several
different options which is always
helpful to a next your readers if you
already have an established readership
an email list or fan base why not test
out your new work on them they'll be
more than happy to give you their
opinion and are worth listening to as
they are the ones most likely to buy
your book after all whoever you choose
to critique your book make sure that you
do it early on and don't just do it once
either the more feedback you get the
more you can rest assured that you are
on the right track that there is a
readership out there and ultimately that
you are giving your book the very best
chance of success and don't forget if
you're struggling to write or finish
your book our free writers toolkit can
help with it you'll learn how to
overcome procrastination get organized

Hello its Peter here again from writers
life and coming up today the top grammar
mistakes those are hard to avoid grammar
is a tricky Beast there are so many
different rules to follow and elements
to remember that often when you start to
focus on correcting your grammar you can
begin to question everything that you
want new words that you are confident
you knew how to spell look foreign
apostrophes misplaced and don't let me
start on the dreaded comma one of the
most important parts of being a writer
is understanding how to present a piece
of work be it an article for a newspaper
or magazine publication or your finish
novel to a publishing house ensuring
your work is error-free
is a challenge and let's face it we are
all human however if you can keep an eye
out for the most common grammar mistakes
and make sure you don't fall into their
trap then you have a good chance of
preventing dramatical errors from
happening see if any of these resonate
with you first there vs. there vs. there
it can be so easy to get this wrong
particularly if you're rushing through a
piece of work to meet the deadline there
is a shortened version of they are while
there refers to something owned by a
group their house friends
there is a place an example it's over
there
pretty basic stuff you might think but
it's so easy to get in a muddle and
crucial to understand the difference
between the three and to check your work
thoroughly to make sure you haven't
misplaced one next incomplete
comparisons if you've ever used a
grammar checker you're likely to see
this one coming up a lot if you compare
something it needs to be clear what you
are comparing it with this one is better
for example is an incomplete comparison
because we don't know what it is better
than next passive voice
another easy mistake to make is using
the passive voice you use a passive
voice when you put the objects in the
sentence at the beginning rather than at
the end the passive voice is easy to do
and difficult to correct but watch out
for it as using it means sentence
construction lacks clarity and your
writing is less tight and engaging
number for me and I people often assume
that using I is the correct / lighter
more refined language in every situation
but that isn't always the case have a
listen to the following when you are
finished with the examination you can
send the note to sue and I does that
sound right to you well it isn't
if you remove sue from this scene and
just asked for the notes yourself you
wouldn't write or indeed say can you
send the notes too I would you you can
send the notes to me I think that sounds
more natural doesn't
this is a handy way to use me or I if
you're ever unclear but finally ie
versus eg this is a complex rule to
remember but very useful to know
particularly when writing articles or
query lenses these two terms are not
interchangeable and in fact mean two
entirely different things
ie is loosely translated as in other
words or in essence while eg comes from
the Latin example I gratis and means
example given if you think about it this
way you only use ie if tried to clarify
your point when an actual example should
follow if you use in eg these five
examples are some of the most common
grammatical mistakes people make and
sure you look out for these when
checking your writing and this will give
you the best chance of sending in an
error-free piece of work and don't
forget if he struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers

Hello is Peter here again from writers
life and coming up today how to be a
21st century writer writing in the
modern age is indeed different than it
used to be John all the times when all
the rights I had to do was right now the
role requires a different far more
diverse skill set so do you have what it
takes to be a 21st century writer just
what are the qualities necessary to
succeed to know you need to ask yourself
the following questions are you a
researcher with the invention and
development of the internet researching
our novels has never been easier but the
wealth of information takes some sifting
through there are no excuses for a
poorly researched book and eagle-eyed
readers will now be able to call you out
if they don't think what you've written
is right and next are you a tech buff
nowadays writers are expected to be
social media savvy to be able to use
apps and programs to help them with
their work and even to build and
maintain their own websites you can't
get away with falling behind the times
when it comes to technological
developments and social media trends in
fact the more you understand how to use
these to your advantage the better
are you a marketer and promoter is next
even authors who are published by
traditional publishing houses are still
responsible in some part for promoting
themselves
self-published authors have to take on
the entire role it's no longer just
about getting a single agent or editor
to believe in your book you have to
build your fan base and increase your
following by understanding how to market
your work how to find new readers and
ultimately what makes a book sell and
next are you an inventor with the rise
in self-publishing meaning anyone and
everyone can write and publish a novel
the book market is full to the brim
writers have to make themselves stand
out from the crowd they have to take
risks to be you need to tell a story no
one else has told writers are now
inventors and they have to use all their
creative skill to make their inventions
count and next are you a fighter 21st
century writers have a battle on their
hands as no writers did before them the
competition seems only to be getting
fiercer and the number of books by new
authors that are taken on by publishing
houses is getting smaller and smaller
the odds are stacked against us but the
rewards are great
and we must fight harder and longer than

Hello it's peter here again from writers
life and today what makes someone
creative to be a successful writer one
must be creative
creativity is at the core of what makes
writers able to conjure up worlds to
bring characters to life and to feed
their readers imaginations so that they
immerse themselves in the story that the
writer is telling them but what exactly
is creativity is it something that
people are born with do we all have it
but some find it easy to tap into their
creativity than others or can we learn
how to be creative even if we are not
just what is it that makes a person
creative here are some ideas being able
to use one's imagination when it comes
to writing there is a particular type of
creativity that helps what it really
boils down to is imagination if a writer
is able to vividly imagine that
characters and their worlds as if they
were real it makes it so much easier for
them to describe them to their readers
and next having the ability to think
freely being able to let one's thoughts
flow without restriction is incredibly
helpful when it comes to creative
thinking writers need to be able to
think creatively without interrupting
themselves they need to be allowed to
come up with ideas without self
sabotaging or being overly critical of
them they need time to let these ideas
develop to grow to build upon them and
explore freely in their minds where
their stories decide to take them next
having the ability to observe details
it's the smallest details that make
things come to life the way a person
arches their eyebrows or moves awkwardly
across a room the way a plastic bag
dances when it gets caught in the wind
or that exact shade of light I just
time of day a creative person notices
these details drinks them all in and
uses them to build their characters and
their worlds and make them vividly and
wonderfully come to be alive finding
beauty in everyday things is next good
writing does not always need to be
dramatic or unusual sometimes simplicity
is best a creative person can observe an
everyday situation and find something
beautiful in it they will pick that
moment that detail out and make their
readers pay attention to it so they see
the beauty - next finding the words a
creative writer not only does all of the
above but also has the ability to find
the exact words the phrases and the
sentences to capture it all -
translating for their readers so that
their readers see hear feel and sense
the very thing that they want them to
that is a skill that takes a long time
to master next they aren't afraid to try
something new every writer needs to take
risks from time to time and being brave
and allowing oneself to do so without
criticism is a creative skill without
experimenting or pushing the boundaries
writers can't expect their writing to
develop or to learn new skills so having
the courage to do so is very important
creative people are expressive
eagle-eyed experimental and courageous
and being creative is essential if you
want to write do you feel as though you
could do more to nurture your creative
self try to do more of these things and
you'll see your creativity saw and don't
forget if you're struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers
toolkit can help with it you'll learn
how to overcome procrastination get
organized
stay focused find time to write and

Hello it's Peter here again from writers
life and today how to build suspense in
your novel building suspense in your
novel is a great way to engage the
reader get them hooked on the story and
ensure that they want to read on
building dramatic tension regardless of
what your book is about will keep your
reader reading but how do you do it it's
important to remember that suspense is
maintained by building up to an event
something the reader assumes will be
terrible yet not actually allowing that
event to happen yet you need to heighten
anticipation until it's almost too much
to bear and then just when the reader is
on the edge of their seat bring it to a
dramatic climax or payoff so here are
some tips to ensure that you build
suspense in your novel first focus on
sensations a strange noise a faint
breeze on the back of your protagonists
neck the whiff of something unusual by
including plenty of sensory detail in
your book you can create tension and a
sense of foreboding give everyday
objects clever descriptions and suddenly
they become potentially dangerous and
full of meaning if you build up these
sensory details little by little you
will build up the tension in the scene
and next slow down slowing down
heightened suspense of course you do
need to get the balance right
you cannot slow the action down so much
that it becomes tedious to read however
in specific scenes where a buildup of
tension is required your characters
movements should be slow deliberate and
careful to slow down time make your
sentences longer and more complex allow
the reader into the mindset of the
character whether they are feeling tense
too or have absolutely no idea what is
about to happen either way the dramatic
tension will be exasperated next use it
sparingly while it's important to evoke
suspense in your novel remember that if
your whole book is tense and there is no
breath your reader will lose interest
you need to keep advancing the plot or
perhaps include humorous scenes for
relief building tension should be done
slowly and carefully you don't need to
overdo it and next you suspense to hint
at what is to come if you want to build
up tension in your book you can build a
scene full of suspense early on and then
let it end without anything awful
happening this way you are hinting that
perhaps your character got away lucky
this time but next time it might be a
different story so the second time they
walk home alone or go down to the beach
at night or go back to that abandoned
cabin in the woods the reader suspect
that something dramatic will happen and
that anticipation will build the
suspense even more and our final tip
give the reader what they want make sure
that after building the suspense in your
novel that your reader gets what they
have been waiting for you need to build
to a dramatic earth-shattering climax
that really gets a reaction from the
reader without this they will feel let
down and cheated so make sure you always
have an endpoint in mind so with these
five tips you can start to think about
how to build up suspense and dramatic
tension in your novel which is sure to
have your readers hold on
your every word and don't forget if
you're struggling to write or finish
your novel our free writers toolkit can
help with it you'll learn how to
overcome procrastination yet organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access to it now while it's still
available simply go to

Hello there is Peter here again from
writers life and coming up today how to
write for children and young adults the
adults audience is without a doubt one
of the most lucrative and exciting
markets turns up into the rising
popularity of teen fiction and books
such as the Harry Potter series or
Twilight Saga that appeal to a wide
readership from younger children to
fully grown adults has been astonishing
so how do you write for a young adult
readership before you begin it's
imperative to do your research and
really understand your audience here are
some great tips on how to do just that
first get inside the mind of your reader
what are their likes and dislikes what
makes them excited frightened sad or
happy understanding they often complex
emotions of the why a reader is so
important and creating characters that
they can resonate with is one of the
most crucial ways to engage with them in
your book adolescence is a tricky time
but one we all have to go through think
about how you felt as a teenager what
was important to you wasn't your
friendships your first loves and your
family learning hard lessons about trust
responsibility and taking ownership of
your actions are key to growing up these
milestones are tick boxes that every
young adult must go through at some
point and at the time each and every one
of them feels like a momentous event
that will change their life forever
capturing these ideas of isolation
excitement or fear love and joy are what
will make a young adult
for a book one that they feel is written
specifically for them and next romance
almost all successful why a fiction has
an element or elements of romance in
them even though this may not
necessarily be the main theme of the
book it's important to consider
including a romance in your young adult
novel this is a time where teenagers
start to have their first crushes first
boyfriends or girlfriends first loves
and perhaps most importantly first
unrequited love placing yourself as a
part of that and having the characters
in your book go through the emotions the
love lust and the heartache is a huge
appeal to your target audience a next
struggle and growth whatever your story
there should be elements of a struggle
lessons learnt and growth as a result
most teenagers won't resonate with a
character that has everything and that
lives a totally happy easy existence
with no troubles no worries no inner
turmoil make your characters real
unbelievable they need to struggle to
make difficult choices to experience
hardships and to learn and grow as a
result of them the next include humor
just because you are writing some adult
fiction doesn't mean it can't be funny
in fact making sure you include some
scenes of light relief will go down well
with your readers sure young adult
fiction tends to be fast pace
intense but there needs to be some
well-placed humor to relieve the tension
- and make everything seem not that bad
after all
writing for a young adult audience isn't
easy
however if you are able to tap into your
inner teen and can creatively and
realistically portray characters that
your readers can identify and emphasize
with you may just be onto a winner and
don't forget if you're struggling to
write or finish your book our free
writers toolkit can help with it you'll
learn how to overcome procrastination
and get organized stay focused
finds out - right and finally getting
your book published to get access now

Hello there is Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and coming up today five
techniques to improve your writing there
are many ways that writers can work to
improve themselves and like any skill
understanding and experimenting that new
techniques and practicing your writing
will see you steadily get better there
are those that believe that writing is a
natural talent and it may be true that
some do have a greater ability to
imagine exciting and engaging characters
and worlds or have a wonderful way with
words however if you apply yourself and
try new things there's no reason why you
can't teach yourself how to be a great
writer too
so if you feel like you have reached a
certain level in terms of your writing
ability and want to improve it these
five tips will help you improve your
writing and tip number one brush up on
grammar spelling and punctuation how
much do you really know about grammar
are you 100% sure when to use a comma a
dash a semicolon we were all taught the
basics of grammar at school but finding
a writer with perfect grammar is very
rare spelling mistakes are also common
obviously it's easy to find out how to
spell any word but careless proofreading
can leave a piece of work
littered with spelling mistakes or
repeated words which won't make a good
impression
knowing that you have great grammar
spelling and punctuation allows you to
be a better writer not only because your

try experimenting with different styles
in your own work finding your voice as
an author can be tough but there's no
reason why you can't have several voices
novels while the writers text books make
sure you are always learning by always
having a book by your side and tip
number three get rid of flowery prose
every time you write read back through
your work and ask yourself is this
necessary for my story does it advance
or add to the story in any way if it
doesn't then get rid of it it can be
frustrating if you end up cutting out
lots of what you've written but that is
how you end up with ties clever
interesting writing if you don't do this
or don't do it strictly you can end up
with a work stuffed with unnecessary
adjectives and adverbs which doesn't
read well remember you need to show the
reader what you mean not tell them and
tip number five give yourself space
after you've written something allow
yourself space read your work over once
and Eddy anything you want but then wait
at least 24 hours before you go back to
it again we can be our own worst enemies
when it comes to critiquing our own work
your mind think what you have written is
just the most appalling idiotic P
rubbish ever spewed onto the page but
you are probably being a bit hard on
yourself give yourself some space look
on your work with fresh eyes and you
might see that actually your aren't
nearly as bad as you think you are and
our final tip tip number five practice
practice practice
if you want to improve your writing then
you should write every day no matter
whether you feel like is or not it's so
easy to make excuses not to write and
then suddenly realize that months have
passed since you made any effort to do
so just give yourself half an hour each
day to sit down and write something
anything it doesn't have to be brilliant
just the sheer routine and practice of
writing will help you unlock your
creativity and you never know you might
