Hello is Peter here again from WritersLife.org
and coming up today how to write a

novella a novella can be a great
stepping stone in a writer's journey
towards completing a novel or it can be
a standalone project whatever the reason
or motivation for writing a novella that
a writer may have what it can do is to
teach them about how to build characters
introduce themes and convey a story in
more depth than short stories do writing
a novella might give you an idea for a
novel or might end up turning into one
itself like much in writing the word
count for novellas is not set in stone
thirty to sixty thousand words is about
right this gives you enough leeway to
expand your story if you see fit or to
keep it quite concise either way even at
the lower end of the word count writing
a novella is no small undertaking it's
long enough that the reader should
become immersed in the world created but
short enough that's a person might be
able to devour the whole story in one
sitting while there are lots of elements
of a novella that are also important in
a full-length novel
there are also some crucial differences
and it is essential to understand what
these are and pay attention to them as
you write your story so if you are
hoping to write a novella remember these
valuable tips first pay attention to
structure the beauty of a novella is
that you need to pack so much into a
limited number of words there is no room
for an excess of anything the plot needs
to be watertight the story must unfold
without deviation
a good structure will provide the base
from which to tell the story and needs
to be smart and simple there's likely to
be fewer characters fewer scene changes
and a clear unifying idea that pulls the
story together next use characters
wisely there should be fewer characters
in a novella and those that do appear
should be used economically characters
need to be impactful and their presence
must be felt right away all characters
should play an essential role in the
story should drive the action and the
plot forward and be cleverly executed so
your readers feel as though they know
them without having to know everything
about them you don't have the luxury of
pages of backstory or of letting your
readers get to know your characters
gradually they must feel a connection
with them almost immediately have just a
single theme and conflict while in a
full-length novel there are
opportunities to bring in several
conflicts and dramas dilemmas themes
subplots because of the limited word
counts of a novella there should only be
one single time frame single place
single idea
this way you can fully execute your
story with as much power and attention
to detail as if writing a full novel
rather than giving a watered-down
version where the story feels weak as if
it isn't fully explained
remember simplicity is key when it comes
to writing a novella it's important not
to over complicate things don't make
life difficult for yourself by trying to
pack too much in instead keep things
simple while still creating a story that
is complex enough to come to a
satisfying conclusion without any
surplus or digressions from the main
idea so by following these tips you can
write a novella that is /
perfectly paced heats the read hoped
allows them to immerse themselves in
your story fully and yet remain simple
sweet and satisfied and don't forget if
you're surely to write or finish your
book our free writers toolkit can help
with it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination again organized stay
focused fine times are right and finally
get your book published to get access

Hi it's Peter here again from WritersLife.org
and coming up today essential book

writing tips for beginner writers if
you've never even come close to
attempting to write a book before even
the idea of doing so can seem utterly
overwhelming it may be that you have
some writing experience have written
some sorts of pieces for pleasure now
and again or have just been struck with
a brilliant idea for a book or an urge
to do it but have no writing experience
at all whatever stage you are at and how
ever used to writing you are actually
making that move to start writing a
novel is a huge commitment and often
people can be at a loss not knowing
where to start however writing a novel
though hard work doesn't have to be an
overwhelmingly complicated process
follow these straightforward tips and
not only will you find yourself clear on
how to get started but also armed with
the know how to finish it too so here
are some essential book writing tips for
beginner writers first what is your book
about our books need to be about
something
what's yours about have a clear idea of
your story your characters are what's
going to happen in your book before you
begin just a single idea won't get you
very far so you need to sit down and
work out the details before you start
writing if you don't you might find your
great idea doesn't go
anywhere next writing the chapter
outlines once you have a clear idea of
your story right chapter outlines to
give yourself a firm idea of what you
are going to write chapter outlines will
provide you with the confidence to know
that your story has enough meat to turn
it into a book and we'll stop and read
and write a block from looming halfway
through and next creates deadlines you
need to set yourself realistic and
achievable deadlines for writing your
book break them down it's a manageable
bite-size choice to help make them feel
less impossible figure out a rough
workout total for your book sixty to
eighty thousand words is about right for
a first fiction novel and then set a
weekly word count goal that you know you
can stick to next creates a writing
schedule once you know your deadlines
create a writing schedule that you know
you can stick to be ambitious but don't
push yourself to the points where you
can't get the work done you only end up
feeling disappointed and be more likely
to give up writing at the same time in
the same place can help you to create a
routine and immerse writing it's a part
of your everyday life
next get feedback before you finish
don't wait until you painstakingly
written the entire manuscript before you
get anyone to look at it they'll likely
come back with so many questions notes
and comments that you'll feel like you
have to start it all over again
someone who knows what they're talking
about and isn't afraid to be critical to
look at your work early on can make all
the difference and next learn about the
publishing process decide whether you're
going to try to get an agent or
publisher to take on your book or if
you're going to self publish and then
dedicate some time to learning
everything you can about the publishing
process if you're serious about your
book becoming a success it's important
to know exactly where the opportunities
lie and what you need to do to give your
book the very best pants next don't aim
for perfection your book isn't going to
feel perfect when it's finished so don't
hold on to that idea of perfection and
use it as an excuse to put your book in
a drawer and forget about it if you
don't land a traditional publishing deal
then you can self publish don't spend
all that time and energy on your book
and not do anything with it at the end
and our final tip is a write another one
many writers don't experience success
the first time around
in fact many don't experience it the
second third or fourth time either
however you'll have learnt so much from
writing the first book now you owe it to
yourself to take those lessons and write
another even better one writing a book
does take time and dedication but it
doesn't have to be too complicated use
these simple tips for beginners to get
you started
stay on track and see through to the end
and don't forget if he's struggling to
write or finish your book our free
writer's tool King can help with it
you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally
your book published to get access now

Hello its Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and coming up today how to
title writing a fatigue everyone has
days where they don't feel like writing
but when the days turn into weeks and
the weeks turn into months it can become
a big problem do you have
writing of fatigue some common symptoms
are feeling as though everything you
write is awful being unable to get past
the initial stages of an idea being
consumed by negative thinking that means
you can't focus on the task at hand
feeling as though you're stuck in a
route and writing the same sort of
things over and over again changing
things and feeling as though you are no
better and running out of ideas if any
of these things sound familiar you might
have writing and fatigue but what can
you do about it here are some
suggestions first get out of the house a
change of scenery can work wonders for
the imagination fresh air and exercise
will get that blood pumping and who
knows what you'll see or hear when
you're out and about that will inspire
you with a brilliant idea for your story
take a break sometimes you suffer from
writing fatigue because you do need a
break from writing
do yourself a favor let yourself have
some time off from writing just don't
let the brake turn into a permanent one
sometimes putting something aside and
coming back to it after a few weeks can
help us to see new things and spark new
ideas that allow us to get over whatever
problems we were having when we
initially became frustrated
read something inspiring sometimes we
need to get back to what inspired us to
start writing in the first place
reading over our favorite books again or
just finding inspiring quotes can help
to lift one spirits and help us to
recollect why we write what's important
to us and get us back on the right track
once more reset your goals take a look
at your writing goals perhaps you've
been pushing yourself too far and too
hard and have set goals that are
impossible to reach or maybe your goals
aren't driving you far enough and have
allowed you to become lazy take a look
at the Gauss and deadlines you've set
for yourself and see if you can change
them to keep you more motivated look
after yourself
yet plenty of rest eat healthily learn
how to relax and unwind and don't forget
to exercise keeping the mind and body
fueled with goodness will help you feel
energetic positive and focused all
important for being your best writing
self coming across a roadblock in your
writing is frustrating but there are
ways to deal with it every writer will
experience times when they find it
difficult to write and writing become
sluggish and even dull to them the
critical thing to remember is to work
through this don't give up and persevere
and eventually you'll get back into the
flow of things using these tips will
help you get there faster and hopefully
make instances of writing fatigue as
short-lived and painless as possible and
don't forget if he's struggling to write
or finish your book our free writers

Hello there is Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and today what makes a
best-seller
is there really a key to writing a
best-selling book well the answer is
both yes and no while of course there
are no guarantees there's been a lot of
research done around this idea and in
fact there's plenty of evidence out
there that suggests that by employing
certain formulas structuring your story
in a particular way and using language
cleverly you can increase your chances
of writing a best-selling novel by a
huge amount a group of computer
scientists studying at Stony Brook
University New York City came up with a
theory known as style ama tree which can
determine whether a book will become
successful when used it can predict with
84 percent accuracy whether a book will
sell well using style ama tree it was
found that work with the heavy use of
verbs and adverbs were less successful
than those using large numbers of nouns
and adjectives other ratings included
interestingness and writing style
allowing your characters freedom to move
develop and connect with the reader is
imperative not all characters will
appeal to everyone of course so
understanding your target audience and
writing characters that you know they
will react to is also very important
keep a dialogue short and succinct and
use it to drive the story forward use he
said rather than a descriptive word use
an active voice avoid an omni sense
narrator and keep dialogue natural these
are all techniques which have proven
more popular than their alternatives and
will certainly make your book more
readable and attractive to a wider range
people your language should engage the
reader while it's important to show and
not tell you also need to include
descriptive language to build up a
picture in the readers head let them
look around a place and see what the
character sees when they meet a new
person you should describe their
appearance try to use imaginative and
unusual ways to describe people and
things for example a man with crumpled
skin and gooseberry eyes is better than
a man with wrinkles and green eyes you
need to stimulate your reader senses so
use all of them not only what a
character sees but the sounds smells
tastes and touches that accompany this a
good plot should always involve the
protagonist on a journey overcoming
obstacles and learning about themselves
as they go the world you create needs to
be interesting but believable the
characters you introduced to us should
make us react whether we are excited
enamoured or repulsed all great books
include some sorts of crises something
that somehow deeply affects the
protagonist and motivates them to act
the story should escalate from this
point building intention until the
dramatic climax where the protagonist
makes a choice or a discovery that will
change their life forever of course no
matter how well you write your book
needs to be picked up and taken on by a
publisher or agent in order to stand the
best chance of success the bigger the
publishing house their bigger their
marketing budget and marketing your book
in the correct way is also hugely
important and will have a significant
impact on whether your book becomes a
best-seller or not getting it to the top
of must read lists and having it
displayed at the front of the window
bookshops are all going to push your
novel into the public eye and increase
its sales potential of course you can't
deny that there's an element of look
when it comes to writing a best-selling
novel and you must be careful that you
don't get so weighed down with
strategies and formulas that you then
make the writing process tedious and
difficult one of the best tips is to
write something you would want to read
yourself if you do that not only will
you enjoy the process of writing but
you'll also come across as passionate
and excited about your work when trying
to sell yourself to publishers and
agents and once completed you can be
proud of what you've written regardless
of whether it goes on to be a
best-selling novel or not okay and don't
forget if you're struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers

how to overcome procrastination get
organized

Hello there it's Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and today why you must be
patient
it's easy to fall victim of looking at
other people's success and wishing you
were then when this happens you won't
get far
you spend your time looking at other
people's success and by default you will
neglect your own when you ponder on
other people's success you forget that
it didn't happen overnight the person
you're looking at took years and years
to become successful you're only looking
at the finished product it's easy to
look at the finished product because
it's still shining will aspire to become
the finished product but we forget what
it takes to get there all the trial and
error that goes into becoming a finished
product ceases to exist in our minds you
will not become the finished shining
product overnight when you're starting
on the journey of success learn the art
of being patient when you become patient
you will not give up at the first sight
of failure you understand that failure
is part of the process when others
desire success right away when they
can't achieve it they give up you won't
be one of those people you understand
that if you're patient eventually you'll
achieve your desired success patients
will play a virtue on your journey when
your patient not a lot will affect you
you're able to withstand more than the
average person when others complain you
keep taking massive action you don't let
excuses stand in the way of where you
want to go you know excuses are just
another obstacle you need to overcome
patience leads you to a more fulfilling
life you don't put this unnecessary
pressure on your
to succeed right away instead you take
your time you put in a daily grind
knowing that with each step you'll get
to where you want to go when your
patience you'll become successful maybe
not right now but over time and don't
forget if you're struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers
toolkit can help with it you'll learn
how to overcome procrastination yet
organize stay focused find time to write
and finally get your book published to

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi I'm Jody from WritersLife.org and
today we'll be talking about how a book
gets published the basics of how a book
that's published please note that this
refers to mainstream publishing and not
self-publishing which is something else
entirely
but most of the books you see in
bookstores happen this way for a
first-time author a book generally
starts with a completely finished and
polished manuscript for fiction and
memoirs in a proposal and a sample page
for nonfiction yes novelist you have to
write the whole thing published authors
can sometimes sell novels on proposal
it's then generally advisable for an
unpublished author to find a literary
agents very few publishers these days
accept submissions from uh nogen tada
and a good agent can give a project a
better chance at succeeding and will
usually be able to negotiate a better
deal than the author would be able to
achieve on their own once an agent has
taken on a project they then send it to
one or more editors at different
publishing houses the agent will
specifically target the submission to
the editors that they feel are most
appropriate for the book the editors
take a look at the project and if it's
something they are interested in they
will share it with your colleagues and
bosses to gauge enthusiasm once the
editor has to go ahead to move forward
with the project they will send the
agent and offer the submission process
can take anywhere from a week to a year
or more depending on when or if the
agent finds a match for the project an
author usually includes an advance
royalties territory and other specific
terms sometimes the offer will be for
one book or sometimes it will be for
multiple books if more than one editor
is interested there might be an option
to determine which publisher will make
the best offer when the deal points have
been agreed upon and the author accepts
an offer the publisher will then send a
contract which the agent or the agency's
contracts director will negotiate after
the contract is in sight if the project
was sold on proposal it's then time for
the author to write the book once the
manuscript is completed for nonfiction
or after the contract is signed for
fiction the auditor will usually send an
editorial letter see
justing content changes that the author
will then make these changes are
somewhat negotiable but for the most
part authors will follow their editors
suggestions when the changes have been
made and the manuscript is deem
editorially acceptable it moves to copy
editing where typos and other errors are
corrected and designed as it will look
on the page the author has to review the
different versions of the completed
manuscripts to catch typos the publisher
is also working during this time on the
design of the book including the cover
trim size paper size and other design
considerations meanwhile the editor is
coordinating with their marketing and
sales teams to write copy for the
publisher seasonal catalog write the
jacket copy to hopefully generate
enthusiasm among the sales team for the
project and to help shape the marketing
plans several months before the book's
publication the sales team will be
coordinating with bookstore buyers and
other accounts as they place their
orders which helps determine how many
copies of the book the publisher prints
the agent usually keeps tabs on this
process to make sure everything is
happening according to plan the
publication process from finished
manuscript to in books or books usually
takes a year or more can occasionally be
compressed if it is an especially timely
project but the process usually requires
quite a bit of lead time when
publication date arrives the book goes
on sale and the author is rich and
famous beyond their wildest dreams
sometimes not usually the author then
gets cracking on their next book or
rather they should already have been
cracking and the process repeats the end
don't forget if you're having a hard
time reading or finishing your book

Hello there is Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and today how to stay true
to yourself the great Oscar Wilde once
said be yourself everyone else is
already taken while these words can
apply to everyone to writers they are
even more accurate and he has been so
it's not always as easy as it may seem
writers particularly those who are just
starting out will often rely heavily on
other writers for inspiration in fact it
may well have been that reading your
favorite book by your favorite author is
what made you decide to start writing in
the first place while that's fine it's
essential for writers to try to find
their own way merely trying to emulate
an author and focusing too much on one
author's work will mean that your
writing becomes a copy of someone else's
and let's face it it's unlikely to be a
better copy of that writers need to find
their own voice their own unique way of
telling their stories and expressing how
they feel but how do they do that first
look for inspiration far and wide
writers should look for inspiration
everywhere be that through the books you
read or just the things you observe from
the world around you the more one
searches for inspiration the more
eclectic and experimental you'll be and
you'll find it so much easier to
discover your writing voice to next
discover what motivates you staying true
to yourself is all about finding your
passions and celebrating them whatever
you love whatever gets you smiling
animated and full of energy that's what
you should be pursuing that's what you
should focus your time on
next don't compare yourself to others
being true to yourself is turning the
smoke light inwards comparing yourself
to others isn't healthy or helpful
believes that you are in charge of your
own destiny and that is up to you where
you end up the next tell the truth know
your values know your limits be
completely honest with yourself
only by genuinely lay your cards on the
table and searching your soul will you
be able to understand yourself
completely
the next avoid negativity being
detrimental to yourself or others won't
get you anywhere you don't need to put
others down to achieve what you need to
succeed and you sir Leon helping
yourself by being critical and cruel
some writers are their own worst enemies
but try to have a little faith and
believe in yourself and your abilities
too next take yourself seriously having
self-respect and integrity as an author
is so important if you don't believe in
yourself and keep dismissing yourself or
not putting yourself forward you aren't
being true to yourself if this is indeed
what you want to do and what you believe
in then you should be proud
work hard and make it happen next
take control there's so much you can do
to get noticed to get published to
achieve your writing dream exhaust every
Avenue and grasp every opportunity you
can by following these tips you can stay
true to yourself and continue your work
as a writer with self-respect honesty
and integrity stay true to yourself is
the only way to work even if it's not
the most accessible routes at times but
in doing so you can always be proud of
what you do
and don't forget if he struggling to
write or finish your book our three
writers toolkit can help with it you'll
learn how to overcome procrastination
get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get

Hi I'm Jody from WritersLife.org and
today we'll be talking about ten musts
for writing a book number one take one
fabulous idea it's impossible to
overstate the importance of your concept
in terms of how successful your book
becomes Stephenie Meyer writes perfectly
good competent prose but her story idea
ordinary girl falls for hot vampire
turns her book into a cultural
phenomenon dan Brown
Stieg Larsson Stephen King are all
similar decent writers blessed with
stunning ideas agents know this and no
matter what your genre a strong premise
is essential to selling a book giving
any to broadly similar manuscripts
agents will almost always pick the one
with the strongest central concepts
build yourself a blistering plot the
next huge essential for any novelist is
a story that simply forces the reader to
keep turning pages unfortunately there
are definite rules about how to achieve
this the two crucial rules are a give
the protagonist a major life challenge
early in the book and don't resolve
things until the very ends be if a
particular chapter doesn't advance the
story in a specific way you have to
delete that chapter it sounds simple
well actually the principles aren't that
hard to understand
although executing the advice can be a
bit tricky number three next ingredient
an unforgettable character or two long
after a reader has forgotten the details
of a plot the chances are they'll
remember the character who impelled it
the two things you absolutely have to
bear in mind when constructing your
characters are a make sure the character
and the story bounce off of each other
in interesting ways
so if to take a stupid example your
character has a big fear of spiders the
chances are that your story will have to
force your character to confront those
fears you have to bring your character
into their zone of greatest discomfort
be make sure that you really really know
your character after all it's Alton the
big things that make a character sizzle
with life it's the little things that
make her seem human amy has a passion
for Manhattan
winter she fell off a horse when she was
12 she collects a shell from every beach
she's ever visited one more thing that
matters is where you place your camera
do you write in the first person the
third person do you have one point view
- or 10 number four don't forget to give
your character some inner life one of
the most common problems we see when a
character does and says all the right
stuff but the reader never really knows
what he or she thinks or feels one of
the most common problems we see is when
a character does and says all the right
stuff but the reader never really knows
what the character thinks or feels and
this is one of the very simplest things
for a novelist to do you just need to
remember that your protagonist has a
rich inner world and you need to tell us
about it
not just the bland everyday things
either Mike felt hungry so he sat down
to eat but the things that make him
different and unique dramatized
dramatized dramatized your job as a
novelist is to show the action unfolding
on the page readers don't just want a
third-hand report of what just happened
that means you need to tell them moment
by moments as though you were witnessing
the events number 6 right well okay we
know this sounds obvious but it's no
good having a fabulous idea and a
brilliant plot if you can't write good
clear English your book is made up of
sentences and as those sentences don't
convey your meaning successfully and
clearly your book just won't work
fortunately almost everyone has the
capacity to write well enough you just
have to focus on the challenge in
particular do you think about the three
building blocks of good writing a
clarity you need to express your meaning
clearly be economy never use ten words
when eight would do si precision be as
precise as possible and that normally
means you have to see the scene clearly
in your head before you can describe it
clearly to a reader D that your novel
boasts a lovely sense of place e that
your dialogue sparkles quite easy to
achieve actually and it really
strengthens the book and that your
manuscript is well presented
no row apostrophes please number seven
what if I'm writing for children most of
the same rules apply no matter what age
group you're writing for you write
clearly if your style isn't clear kids
won't have the patience to stay with you
if in doubt keep it simple you write
economically same thing here if you
waste words if a chapter doesn't
immediately drive the story forward
you'll lose readers keep it Tops you
write warmly children flops to Harry
Potter for JK Rowling's ideas and
inventiveness but they stayed with her
because of her warmth you write with
humor and a bit of mischief kids want
humor and they want books to break rules
that they wouldn't dream of breaking in
real life think of your favorite
children's book and you'll almost
certainly smile number eight reached the
final full stop congratulations you're
almost halfway there
Hemingway once said the first draft if
anything is crap and he's right
nearly all first drafts will have
problems some of them quite profound and
that's okay the first draft is really
just your opportunity to get stuck in on
the real business which is refining and
perfecting the story you've just told
yourself the chances are that you have
not properly succeeded in the following
rules above so now it's a pretty good
time to go back over these and check
that you've made full use of their
wisdom you'll find that a lot of these
things are circular you'll use the same
advice over and over again but make more
profound use of it each time around
number nine get help writing a book is
hard work it's lonely those around you
are seldom equipped to offer expert
feedback and advice and of course this
is a difficult road most first novels do
not get published so please don't try to
go it alone if you finished your novel
however then the most direct route to
improving it is to get detailed
editorial advice on what's working
what's not yet working and what to do to
fix it this kind of feedback is the gold
standard way to improve your writing and
number ten get a literary agent and a
book deal literary agents only take
about one book in a thousand so before
you take this final step we do suggest
that you've completed
one through number nine properly that
said if you're not was good enough you
will find it easy enough to secure
representation just follow these steps a
select your target agents be choose
about eight to twelve names you're
looking for agents who are keen to take
on new writers who are active in your
area if they happen to represent authors
you love then so much the better
see write a fabulous cover letter d
write a good clear synopsis a process
that terrifies most writers but which is
easier than you might think
e get your stuff out there and good luck
don't forget if you're having a hard
time writing or finishing your book

Hi I'm Jodi from WritersLife.org and
today we'll be talking about myself
publishing is easier than you've heard
here's the most surprising thing about
self-publishing it's really really easy
I say surprising because I feel like we
as writers shouldn't realize this
considering how many people have
embraced self-publishing and have a lot
of success doing it but there's
something about the publication process
that seems so daunting so many things to
think about so hard to get the word out
at the end of the day self-publishing
just isn't that hard there are really
only six things to worry about writing
the dang thing this is by far the
hardest part when you start writing you
think it's going to be easy but you soon
realize that it doesn't read like a book
there are ton of holes and it kind of
sucks you extensively rewrite everything
and add a lot of new material you think
it was going to take a month
but writing your book actually took a
year look getting it edited this is
where things start to get easier there
are so many incredible freelance editors
out there after all for copy editing and
final polished you turn to a friend
maybe someone who agreed to a barter
edit since you've edited some of their
work in the past and now you're
extremely happy with how everything
turned out number three cover design you
find an amazing and influential graphic
designer who may be slightly better
known among other things or perhaps
you're on a budget and look to a friend
or maybe a startup company number for
interior design you think about trying
to learn how to design the interior but
this is a corner you decide to cut you
reach out to a few interior designers
for quotes and end up going with an
incredibly fast and professional
designer and the end result looks
terrific piece of cake getting
everything uploaded you distribute
directly via Kindle BNN Kobo and use the
e distributor Smashwords for everything
else when the print cover is ready you
distribute with creative space easy easy
easy
and number 6 promotions
you plug your book to the blogger's and
are fortunate to get some really nice
blurbs and you begin experimenting with
some social media ads this is a bit of a
simplification obviously and if you have
any questions about the specifics of
self-publishing check out Susan K Quinn
the creative path and David Goggin there
are many merits to traditional
publication but if you're holding back
from self-publishing because it seems
daunting don't sweat it
it's really not that hard
self-publishing veterans how did you
find the process let us know in the
comments don't forget if you're having a
hard time writing or finishing your book
check out our free writer's tool kit
they can help you overcome
procrastination get organized stay
focused and get your book published just

Hello its Peter here a game from writers
life and today can you really be a
part-time writer when it comes to
writing we all hear those stories of
famous writers you know the ones who are
ate slept and breathed writing those who
would guess over three am shaking with
passion and a fierce unstoppable desire
to write all their thoughts down those
who couldn't think of anything other
than writing who would spend their days
holed up in their study perhaps a quirky
just filled share the bottom of their
garden and not see daylight or eat for
days on end because their work was so
consumed well that might be all well and
good but for most of us the idea of
being a full-time writer is a bit of a
luxury we all know how hard it is to get
published so how much time can we
realistically spend on our writing while
still making sure we have a roof over
our heads
also it's okay not to want writing to be
the only thing you do with your life
writers seem to carry immense amounts of
guilt around with them they beat
themselves up for not doing enough for
not being good enough
in fact often we are so down on
ourselves and put so much pressure on
ourselves it's a wonder we find any joy
in writing at all sure being a good
writer requires dedication and
commitment and discipline there's no
doubt about it but one can be a
part-time writer and still progress
still see targets and still achieve our
writing dreams when did being a writer
mean one has to be bleary-eyed neglects
our friends and families and live on
crusts of bread and water for weeks on
end it's like we have to be ashamed if
we are practically killing ourselves to
achieve our writing goal
there's a myth that unless we are waking
up in the middle of the night and slowly
becoming reclusive in order to write
that we can't possibly be passionate
enough about it or dedicated enough for
it to be a success writers need to give
themselves a break at the end of the day
while it's important to work hard for
what you want in life it's also
important to enjoy the process
so if writing part-time works for you
and allows you to write at your leisure
while also enjoy everything else that
life has to offer
that's fine in fact achieving a balance
between your writing life and your
actual life is healthy and something
which should be encouraged we don't need
to have a sob story we don't need to
cripple ourselves and end up a
stressed-out
exhausted shell of a person to follow
our dreams that's not to say that being
a full time writer couldn't be brilliant
but it needs to be because that's the
right move not born out of some sort of
guilt ridden weird idea that you're not
a real writer unless you dedicate every
inch of your being to it it's essential
for writers to stop and ask ourselves is
this working for me am i enjoying this
writers don't have to be tortured
sleep-deprived soars it's okay and
possible to be a part-time writer and
still be successful it's just that it
may tell you a little longer to get
there that's all and don't forget if
you're struggling to write or finish
your book our free writers tool can help
with it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized
stay focused fine times are right and
finally get your book published to get
access now while it's still available
simply go to
that's it

Hello its Peter here again from WritersLife.org
and today I'd like to talk to you

about how to give your story
focus every good story needs to have a
solid structure your structure is what
helps your plot stay focused and moving
along at just the right pace and ensures
that your story is cohesive
understandable and that there aren't any
gaping holes in the plot or
inconsistencies that leave your reader
confused or irritated learning about how
to create a story structure is something
that every writer should do before they
begin writing their story don't wait
until you're halfway through to try to
impose a structure or to put together a
fragmented narrative yet your structure
clear at the very beginning and you'll
find it so much easier to stay focused
further down the line
so what can you do to give your story
structure follow these helpful tips
first understand the basics every story
needs a beginning a middle and an ending
we all know that it sounds oh so simple
but actually organizing your story in
this way is where structure plays a
significant role you need to structure
your story so it takes the reader on a
journey it needs to open with impact
then carry them along creating entry and
interest at every turn through the
middle there will be highs and lows
points where the story slows and then
speeds up again and then the ending
should arrive when it's time and leave
readers satisfied but also sad that the
ride is over
structure helps writers to think about
what's needed to make this happen at
every stage of the book the beginning
needs to introduce readers to your
characters to your world and indicate
where the story will go next the middle
needs to be full of action changes and
obstacles that your protagonist may
overcome the end ties all the loose ends
together all of these aspects must be
carefully balanced to help your story
unravel just as in short without proper
structure your story will feel forced
slow or as though it is just going
nowhere try to experiment there are lots
of different types of structure one can
apply to a story and writers may need to
experiment with them to find the one
that best fits the story they are trying
to tell do your readers see the world
through the protagonists eyes or are
they passing by Stander's does your
story focus on a single characters
adventure growth and personal change or
follow the paths of many is your story
an event type story where something has
happened in the world and certain things

Hi guys its Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and today
why is writing so difficult writing is
hard really hard and it's no wonder
writers can end up feeling infuriates
and D motivators and generally fed up
with the whole process we've all been
there
when we can't find the inspiration the
right words or where our once great idea
simile dries up and trails off where we
get rejections bad reviews or just radio
silence and it all just seems too
difficult it's no wonder that so many
people who start out trying to write a
book never get to the end it's even less
surprising that writers who do manage to
finish their manuscripts end up never
doing anything with it because they've
been told time and time again just how
tough it is to get anywhere in the
writing business but just what is it
about writing that makes it so difficult
why do writers all suffer from times
where no matter how hard they try no
matter how much they will eat their
stories their words just won't come out
the way they want them to if at all
writing is hard because first it asks
for total focus writing isn't something
that just happens it takes real focus
writers need to be able to create whole
new worlds new people and stories that
grip the hearts and imaginations of
their readers this is no easy task
and without being able to entirely focus
to truly immerse ourselves in our
writing it's impossible to realize our
vision fully writing demands discipline
you can't just sit down one day and
write out a best
selling novel the first time writing is
an art it's a skill and you need to
practice it if you want to get any good
at it having the time the motivation and
the dedication to keep writing even when
you don't feel like it is not something
that everyone has the discipline to do
writing requires huge courage writers
write regardless of the terrible odds of
actually getting published they write
stories that are personal to them and
share them with the world they pour
their heart and soul into their work
only to be taught time and time again
that it's not good enough to be a writer
you have to be brave to be persistent to
be able to take knocks and get back up
there and keep going regardless that
kind of bravery isn't going to come easy
it takes sacrifice there may be
exceptions but most writers find that
they have to sacrifice something if they
want to keep writing it might be time
spent with family and friends it might
be not earning much money whatever the
sacrifice being truly committed to
writing means making choices that are
not always easy to make writing takes a
lot from a person and even if you are
willing to do all of these things let's
face it you also need to have some
talent too however the writer that can
commit to writing in such a way to make
those sacrifices and to keep pushing
forward is the one who will get better
and better and the one who is so much
more likely to achieve their writing
goals and don't forget if you're
struggling to write or finish your book
our free writers toolkit can help you
with it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized stay
focused
find time to write and finally get your
book published to get access now while
it's still available simply go to

Hello its Peter here again from WritersLife.org
and today why you need to learn to

write anywhere
here are some of the favorite excuses of
writers when trying to avoid getting to
work the house is too messy I'm too
tired I don't have enough time I'm too
stressed out I don't know where to start
my desk is too cluttered the laundry
I've got to do the laundry
any of them self familiar to you yeah I
thought so all writers go through
periods of procrastination and we'll
find just about any excuse they can to
avoid sitting down and getting on with
their work the most common excuses find
a way to blame not having the perfect
writing conditions for without them how
could one possibly write write at the
end of the day unless you have the
luxury of being a full-time writer it
might be that you only get a few minutes
here and there it might be that you've
got to do it in a bit of a rush or that
you use your commute or that thirty
minutes when the kids have gone to bed
before you also need to crush out or
early in the morning when no one else
has gone up yet it would be wonderful to
just sit down in our perfectly setup
writing room where we have surrounded
ourselves with objects that inspire us a
freshly made pot of coffee by our side
and the knowledge that there will be no
interruptions for the rest of the day
but we've got to be realistic in short
we've got to learn to write anywhere
training yourself to focus and be
productive for shorts irregular periods
of time can help you make so much more
progress with your writing and the
sooner you can adapt to working in less
than perfect environments regardless of
whether they are noisy
or follow interruptions the better as
with anything practice makes perfect and
to learn to write anywhere you have to
be willing to make an effort to
consistently right in these inconvenient
locations at these inconvenient times
and even when you really don't feel like
it if you keep waiting to be in the
perfect mood at the ideal time in the
ideal place chances are you won't get
very far with your writing at all no one
said it was easy we know it's a
challenge trying to concentrate while
you've got kids screaming in the
background or you're hot and squashed on
your commute to work
no one said it wouldn't be frustrating
to be interrupted when you've just got
into the writing zone but if you don't
try you might find that progress is so
slow you become even more demotivated
so next time you're finding excuses not
to write recognize them as just that
excuses treat writing like a job stop
waiting for the perfect mood and moment
and fit writing into your life
however messy or complicated it may be
and don't forget if it struggling to
write or finish your book
our free writers toolkit can help with
it you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get

Hello again it's Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and today what to do when
you feel like giving up almost every
writer at some stage during their
writing career has a moment where they
feel like giving up that moment may be
fleeting be dismissed just as quickly as
it came or it may be something that
builds up creeps into your head and
becomes impossible to shake there is no
denying that writing is a tough job we
all know it however there are times
where writing can feel so tough it's
hard to carry on perhaps you're
suffering from writer's block and tired
of being so exasperated and infuriated
that no words seem to want to come out
or perhaps you suffered a rejection or
being given a particularly bad review
perhaps you just can't find the time to
write or have got into such a routine of
procrastination that you wonder how
you'll ever get back to writing
regularly again feeling as though you
are wasting your time that you'll never
become a successful that no one really
cares about your writing can be pretty
draining however before you decide to
pack in writing forever you need to
really be sure it's the right decision
and not something you will come to
regret more often than not quitting
isn't the right choice so what should
you do when you feel like giving up to
really be sure one way or another let's
take a look first how do you feel only
you know deep down inside how you truly
feel try to get to the very root cause
of how you feel and be honest with
yourself about what is causing you to
feel this way more often than not there
might be a particular problem that
as a solution if you truly find writing
unenjoyable and can't see how you could
ever change that you'll know that maybe
it's time to stop next where have you
gotten to if you're just forming a new
idea
and you feel like giving up already it
may simply be that this particular idea
isn't going to work
Park it and try working on something
else for a while to see if that gets you
motivated again if you are midway
through a writing project just look how
far you've come already it might be
tough but if you've come this far why
not try and push through until the end
and then see how you feel next what is
writing getting in the way of sometimes
we could feel like giving up on rides it
because it takes away from other things
we want to do writing doesn't come
without sacrifice but if there's
something that you feel is lacking from
your life and writing is getting in the
way of it try to reassess your
priorities to shift and doodle some of
your daily activities to find room for
both why not cut your writing time or
find a different slot for it rather than
quitting altogether next reassess your
goals you might feel like giving up on
writing because you have simply given
yourself too much to do your writing
goal should be challenges but they don't
have to make you feel totally stressed
out or pressured why not create some
easily achievable goals to help give you
more of a sense of achievement with your
writing and then start to build up again
from there and next give yourself time
just because thoughts of giving up comes
into your head doesn't mean it's the
right answer it's okay to give yourself
a bit of time to think about what you
really want
what your goals and priorities are on
what will make you happiest
next surround yourself with positive
people some people just aren't going to
get your writing or aren't going to
support you when it comes to your
writing goals
these people aren't helping you so try
to distance yourself from or at least
separate the time you spend with them
from your work so you don't have to mix
the two next try to finish something
sometimes all it takes is getting
something finished to feel as though you
are back on track before you give up on
your writing promise yourself you'll
finish your latest projects and then
reassess things after that finally take
a break taking a break from your writing
is not the same as giving up on it so if
things are really getting on top of you
give yourself some space create some
distance from your writing and just
return to it when you feel ready again
so next time you feel like giving up why
not take some time to really ask
yourself why you feel like doing so then
you can use these tips to get you back
into a positive and productive frame of
mind once more at the end of the day
feeling happy and fulfilled is what is
most important so do whatever feels
right for you and don't forget if you're
struggling to write or finish your book
or free writers toolkit can help with it
you'll learn how to overcome
procrastination get organized stay
focused
find time to write and finally get your
book published to get access now while
it's still available you know where to
